at Lincoln Elementary School.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Approval of this request will allow the disbursement of $6,500 collected in grant money to the
Desert YMCA for supplies connected with the administration of the Lincoln Elementary School's
After School Program.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Palm Desert has received $6,500 in grants which were specified for use in City
funded after school programs. Five thousand dollars was received from Wal-Mart and $1,500
was received from The Gardens on El Paseo. The grant from The Gardens on El Paseo was
specifically designated for the purchase of computers. The Desert YMCA, which is the

list (attached) of supplies that would be beneficial in the administration and enhancement of this
program.
This program, which currently serves 100 students grades First through Fifth, features subject
specific tutoring, a homework period, cultural enrichment, nutrition, and physical conditioning.
The purchase of the requested supplies, which include computers and attendant programs,

the beneficial work that has been started and continue its ability to improve the attendance and
raise test scores of participating students.

Subject: Lincoln YMCA
Good Morning Pat!
I just wanted to e-mail you a few "wish list" items for the Lincoln YMCA program.
Our biggest wish would be new computers. The upper grade levels use them for various school reports
through out the school year and to type their science fair projects. For the lower grades, we bought
some reading and math programs for them to use. Our current computers were donated to the "Y" from
police stations and hospitals. Due to the sensitive information kept on these computers, they were
completely gutted. While Steve was with us, he was able to rebuild them, however, they are starting to
fall apart on us. Two of the keyboards are shot. We also would like additional tutoring programs for the
children to use on the computer.
Some of our sports equipment is falling apart. It would be nice to replace it and purchase additional
equipment. Also, colored jerseys would be nice to separate kids on teams. When they are all in
uniform, it is hard to distinguish which team they are on.
Lastly, it would be beneficial to have a white board for each grade. When the kids have trouble with
their homework, it is easier to group them together and go over their problems on the white board.
I think this would help us out greatly.
Thanks for everything.
