STAFF REPORT REQUEST: APPOINTMENT OF PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE MEMBERS DATE: June 12, 2008 CONTENTS: Subject Applications RECOMMENDATION: By Minute Motion, appoint Briana Nolan, Alison McCollister, and Alahna Dunbar to the Palm Desert Youth Committee. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Due to the recent resignations of Palm Desert Youth Committee members, three vacancies currently exist. Appointment of the requested individuals to fill these vacant positions will allow the Committee to move forward with its current and proposed activities. BACKGROUND: In 2002, the City of Palm Desert established a Youth Committee to advise the City Council on issues of interest to the younger members of our community. Since that time, Committee members have been involved in activities such as providing input on traffic and facility issues, sponsoring fundraisers to benefit local charities, staffing city special events, and representing the Council at other community activities. Due to the resignations of Amanda Caudill, Gary Gill, and Ryan O'Connell, three vacancies currently exist. Briana Nolan, Alison McCollister, and Alahna Dunbar have demonstrated an interest in the activities of the Committee as well as an understanding of its function and mission within the City structure by attending meetings and participating in its activities.
