TWEDT APPLICANT: THE FORD PROPERTIES COMPANY 73-185 HWY 111, SUITE C PALM DESERT, CA 92260 DATE: J U N E 12, 2008 CONTENTS: 1. DEVELOPER APPLICATION 2. COPY OF ARTWORK AND DESIGN 3. RENDERING OF BUILDING WITH ARTWORK 4. ARTIST'S RESUME Recommendation: By Minute Motion: 1) Approve Jon Seeman's proposal of uFeng Shui II" as the public art component for the Ford Properties Building located at 73-141 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert, Califomia 92260; 2) appropriate $1,625 for future reimbursement as part of the Art in Public Places fee component from Account No. 436-0000-312-2700. Executive Summary: The Art in Public Places Commission unanimously approved the design proposal by Jon Seeman for the public art component for the Ford Properties Office Building project at its May 21, 2008 meeting_ The proposed artwork consists of three elements, two vertical shapes that frame a circular element at the top, which is kinetic and appears to rotate 360 degrees. The piece is constructed of various gauges of steel and stainless steel and will be coated with red acrylic polyurethane paint. The artwork will be installed on the northeast side of the building facing Fred Waring Drive. From the architectural rendering provided in the application, the sculpture appears to compliment the round architectural facade elements of the building. And, the bright red color of the artwork will display well aganst the tan color of that portion of the building. Discussion: Mr. Seeman is a well known and respected Southern California artist from Laguna Beach who has numerous artworks in private, corporate, and public art collections throughout California and the east coast. He has also exhibited his work extensively in cities on both coasts. The developer fee for this project is only $1,625; however, the developer is proposing to commission Mr. Seeman to create the sculpture which is estimated at a cost of $10,022.50 to the developer.
