HomeMy WebLinkAboutAB 2000 - General Plan Housing ElementREQUEST: DATE: CITY OF PALM DESERT COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT STAFF REPORT CONSIDERATION OF LEGISLATIVE REVIEW COMMITTEE ACTION ON AB 2000 (Mendoza) AT ITS MEETING OF FEBRUARY 26, 2008 March 27, 2008 CONTENTS: AB 2000 Language RECOMMENDATION: TY By Minute Motion, concur with the action taken by the Legislative Review Committee at its meeting of February 26, 2008, and direct staff to prepare a letter of support for the Mayor's signature with regard to AB 2000 (Mendoza) relative to general plan housing element. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Passage of AB 2000 would allow a local agency that has exceeded its share of regional housing needs for a particular income level to count the excess housing units toward meeting its share of regional housing needs for the same or higher income levels. BACKGROUND: The Planning and Zoning law requires a City's General Plan to include specified mandatory elements including a Housing Element that identifies existing and projected housing needs and includes a statement of goals, policies, quantified objectives, financial resources, and scheduled programs for the preservation, improvement, and development of housing.
