IV. NEW BUSINESS
A. JR/SR GOLF TOURNAMENT — ORAL PRESENTATION BY MIKE
OSGOOD
This item was continued to the May meeting until the appropriate Federal
Agencies approval of the use of Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack's
likeness and name has been obtained. The tournament is scheduled for
September 21, 2008. Desert Willow's Director of Marketing Mike Osgood
and Councilman Dick Kelly will be in attendance at the May meeting to
discuss this activity.
B. MANDATORY ETHICS TRAINING
Pat Scully distributed the correspondence from City Clerk Rachelle
Klassen regarding mandatory Ethics Training.
In response to questions raised as to the necessity for this training, Ms.
Scully reminded the Committee that as appointees of the City Council
they were subject to the same rules regulating locally elected officials and
State Law AB1234 requires Ethics Training every two years. She added
that realizing the schedule established for city staff does not
accommodate the school day; there is an opportunity to complete the
training online.
In response to questions from the Committee, Ms. Scully responded that
she was unaware of the timeline. She will obtain that infomation and
communicate that to members of the Committee.
V. CONTINUED BUSINESS
A. COMMUNITY DISPLAY — ORAL PRESENTATION BY DEBORAH
SCHWARTZ
Public Art Coordinator Deborah Schwartz addressed the Committee. She
advised the Committee that she would be assisting them in the process of
developing the Community Display which will be featured in the art gallery
at the Palm Desert Visitor Center in July and August of 2009. The
Committee should be collecting copies of photographs and articles of
activities, projects, and meetings in which they have participated. She
encouraged members of the Committee, most particularly Member Scott
and Member Kate Hart, to contact her directly at her office if they have any
questions regarding the types of things that should be documented for the
display.
Ms. Scully reminded the Committee that the Youth Resource Guide will
debut at a reception announcing this display.

B. POLYNESIAN GARDEN PARTY — REMARKS BY PETER
RITTENHOUSE
Co-chair Raine Armstrong redistributed Committee assignments for the
event scheduled to be held on April 12.
Ms. Scully advised that all Committee members should arrive at the
Senior Center at 4 p.m. and park on the street. Any Committee member
who has not yet turned in their ticket money should do so either at the
event or, at the very latest, at the May meeting.
Peter Rittenhouse advised that attire should be in keeping with the
appropriateness of one meeting his/her own grandparents.
C. COMMITTEE PRIORITIES — ORAL REPORT BY COMMITTEE CHAIR
ELLE WOHLMUTH
Chair Wohlmuth advised that the Committee priorities would be presented
to the Committee in June. She added that she has received many great
ideas for future projects.
VI. OLD BUSINESS
None
VII. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
A. CITY COUNCIL ISSUES
Ms. Scully advised that the budget process for the next fiscal year is
underway and will be reviewed by the City Council in the coming month.
VIII. REPORTS AND REMARKS
A. COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Alternate Member Briana Nolan inquired as to whether members not
assigned to the Community Display Committee could submit photographs
or articles for consideration. Ms. Scully advised that any member who
had anything that they believe to be pertinent for display were welcome to
bring it to Members Hart and/or Scott.
Upon inquiry by Co-chair Armstrong, Ms. Scully responded that alternate
members are held to the same attendance requirements as appointed
members.
Chairwoman Wohlmuth requested that members read the
correspondence from City staff more carefully so that an issue, such as
occurred last Saturday with the non-participation at the hula lessons,

does not occur again. Not following through with scheduled activities
reflects poorly on the Committee and on the City as a whole.
B. STAFF
Ms. Scully reminded the Committee that the May meeting will have
several visitors speaking on a variety of subjects and with the request that
members plan to arrive early so the meeting could begin on time.
Ms. Scully advised that the phone list is still not accurate and will be
distributed at the May meeting, one more time, so that it can be finalized.
Ms. Scully advised that three seniors will be leaving the Committee due to
graduation. Other members should begin recruiting new members.
IX. ADJOURNMENT
Upon a motion by Member Johnny Rohrbaugh and second by Member Katie
Pawelczyk the meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m. Motion carried by unanimous
vote.
