III. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
ROLF HOEHN, the City's representative on the Airport Commission, gave an
update on construction improvement at the Palm Springs Airport. He gave an
overview of the future of airlines and air travel at the airport.
Upon request by Ms. O'Flynn, Mr. Hoehn responded that he would emait the
presentation to the recording secretary to make it available to the Committee.
Mr. Hoehn also stated that he was on the Board of the Sister Cities Foundation
and was active in procuring the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo chefs for the Art of Food &
Wine FestivaL

IV. CONSENT CALENDAR
A. MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JULY 15, 2008.
Theresa Maggio moved, by Minute Motion, to approve the minutes of the July 15,
2008, meeting. Motion was seconded by Brent Wise and carried 5-0.
V. NEW BUSINESS
A SPONSORSHIP OF "PATTI GRIBOW'S ROUNDTABLE" TELEVISION
SHOW
Kristy Kneiding introduced Patti Gribow to the Committee.
Patti Gribow gave a presentation regarding her television show and
distributed information to the Committee. She gave an overview of all
available advertising and sponsorship packages. The show was currently
scheduled to air seven times a week.
Upon question by Ms. Maggio, Ms. Kneiding responded that the
philosophy of the City was that these types of programs were perFect
opportunities for businesses within the City, but not necessarily a focal
point for the City itself.
Further discussion ensued regarding advertorial advertising.
Emily Bird-Hrivnak moved, by Minute Motion, to decline sponsorship of the "Patti
Gribow's Roundtable" television show. Motion was seconded by Mr. Wise and carried
5-0.
B. AUDIENCE SEGMENTATION RESEARCH RESULTS
Ms. Kneiding gave a brief overview of the results from the Audience
Segmentation Research. Seven hundred individuals responded to the
survey with 67% of respondents having visited Palm Desert in the last
year. The information received from the participants would be used to
improve marketing communication efforts.
Upon question by Ms. Allensworth, Ms. Kneiding responded that there
was one offer for a two night stay at the Marriott with golf and lunch at
Desert Willow for completing the survey. One name was drawn from all
respondents.
Ms. Maggio moved, by Minute Motion, to receive and file the Audience
Segmentation Research Results report. Motion was seconded by Ms. Bird-Hrivnak and
carried 5-0.

C. FORMATION OF A WEBSITE SUBCOMMITTEE
After a brief discussion, Ms. Bird-Hrivnak, Ms. Allensworth and Ms.
O'Flynn volunteered for the Website subcommittee.
Ms. Maggio moved, by Minute Motion, to approve the appointment of Ms. Bird-
Hrivnak, Ms. O'Flynn and Ms. Allensworth to the Website subcommittee. Motion was
seconded by Mr. Wise and moved 5-0.
VI. CONTINUED BUSINESS

VII. OLD BUSINESS
A. DESERT SPRINGS MARRIOTT CO-OP ADVERTISING RESULTS
Ms. Bird-Hrivnak distributed information on the results of the Marriott co-
op advertising campaign with the City. The sales strategy helped Marriott
dominate market share. She believed the campaign assisted them with
bookings during the slow summer. Website bookings were up over 50%
from last year. She reiterated her appreciation for support from the City.
Upon question by Councilmember Spiegel, Ms. Bird-Hrivnak responded
that the two resorts that were the main competition for Marriott were
Rancho Las Palmas and Agua Caliente Casino & Resort. The Marriott
cannot compete with an $89 a night room rate.
Lee Morcus moved, by Minute Motion, to receive and file the Desert Springs
Marriott Co-op Advertising Results report. Motion was seconded by Ms. Maggio and
carried 6-0.
B. ART OF FOOD AND WINE STATUS REPORT
AMY HARRIS gave an update on the chefs, the restaurants, the programs
and entertainment involved with the Art of Food & Wine festival.
Ms. Kneiding reported that 30 stores participated in the Art of Food &
Wine event last year. To date, there were 45.
Ms. O'Flynn stated that changes to the EI Paseo events have made a big
difference in participation.
JASON ABRAHAMS gave an overview of the operation and site plan.
The entrance and loading areas have been improved, as well as the
locations of the grand tasting tents, exhibitors, and art galleries.

Ms. Harris stated that rack cards and promotional posters will be
distributed to retailers on EI Paseo along with business size cards with the
event schedule, website, and phone numbers included on the back of that
card. The television advertising schedule includes three different
commercials airing on KCET and local television stations.
Upon question by Councilmember Spiegel, Ms. Harris responded that
ticket sales for the B52s' were selling nicely. The McCallum was going to
start aggressive marketing in two weeks.
Upon request by Mr. Morcus, Ms. Harris stated that the presentation
would be available to the Committee.
Donna Gomez reported that she and David Hermann were heading up the
volunteer recruitment program and had volunteer packets available for
anyone interested.
Mr. Morcus moved, by Minute Motion, to receive and file the Art of Food & Wine
Spirits report. Motion was seconded by Ms. Maggio and carried 6-0.
VIII. REPORTS FROM CITY COUNCIL LIAISONS
A. City Council
Mayor Protem Spiegel reported that City Council denied the CVA BID
proposal. He explained the BID process and a discussion was held
regarding same.
IX. REPORTS AND REMARKS
A. Chair
Ms. O'Flynn reported that The Gardens was hosting the Taste of Art of
Food & Wine on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, benefiting Joslyn Senior
Center's "Meals on Wheels" Program.
The Gardens were also hosting Loma Linda University Children's Hospital
Teddy event on October 25, on the center lawn from 11:30 a.m. and the
John Stanley King Band will perform at 4:30 p.m.
November is the 10th anniversary of The Gardens Shopping Soiree. She
will keep the Committee posted on that event.

B. Committee Members
Brent Wise reported that WestField hosted its first annual Fashion Show. It
was a great success and he anticipated hosting the event next year.
WestField will sponsor two booths at the Business Expo for the Chamber
of Commerce. They will also be involved in this years' Golf Cart Parade.
Ms. Allensworth reported that the McCallum has secured Diana Ross for
its December gala this year.
She added that they were very excited about the B52's coming to the
McCallum in correlation with the Art of Food & Wine.
C. Staff
Sheila Gilligan reported that Westfield Palm Desert would open its doors
for early voting.
Ms. Kneiding said she would be attending a FAM event in cooperation
with the CVA. She anticipates 20 to 25 UK tour operators to be in
attendance.
X. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
1. Public Relations Activity Report— July & August 2008
Ms. Kneiding gave an overview of the PR report.
2. Visitor Information Center Activity Report — July & August 2008
Ms. Gomez said the report speaks for itself. She attended a FAM
event at the Spa Resort & Casino with 17 travel agents from
Australia. They were introduced to Palm Desert by way of a tour of
the City as well as EI Paseo. The Mod Resort hosted the travel
agents.
