Thanks for the quick response. The City Council meets at 4:00 on the second and fourth
Thursday of each month. When would it be convenient for the boys to come to a Council
meeting? And how many will there be?
It is getting a bit late to schedule them for the October 9th meeting but how about October
23rd. 7ust let me know how many kids are on the team so we can prepare an appropriate
recognition.
Thanks again,
Pat Scully

Patricia,
Below is a correspondence from David Kato. It outlines the accomplishments of the Toros and
provides information regarding the players and coaches.
This will be my third year as President of Palm Desert Youth Sports. I have been in the
league for seven years and both my boys play. My campaign is to promote good behavior and
accountability from not only the kids but the coaches and parents as well. To this end, I
would like to recognize the Toros and David Kato as they represent the league and the city so
well.
They are a cohesive group that does everything together. The boys show up each year at out
league tryouts to assist in any way they can. Scott Fisher volunteers his time to be on our
board and David Kato year in and year out organizes our scheduling (quite a daunting task).
I am overjoyed that this fine group will be honored by the City.
Please let me know if I can provide any additional information.
Best,
Richard B. Weintraub

Richard,
The Toros are a 12 year-old travel baseball team representing the Palm Desert Youth Sports
Association. The Toros compete in numerous travel baseball tournaments each year in Southern
California and Nationally.
Over the fours years of existence, the Toros have been ranked amongst the top teams in
Southern California.
On 7une 26, 2008, the Toros went 10-0 and won the Cooperstown All-Star Village National
Championship for the week of 7une 21-26, 2008. Over the years, many travel baseball teams
from the Coachella Valley have traveled to Cooperstown to compete in this prestigious
tournament.
However, the Toros are the first team to ever bring home the championship. In addition, over
the four years of being together, the Toros have won over two hundred games and twenty three
competitive tournaments (most of any travel baseball team in the Coachella Valley).
The experience in Cooperstown was amazing for the players, coaches and parents. The players
and coaches roomed together in barrack style housing. The kids lived and breathed baseball
for an entire week, which I believe attributed to our success. Our kids love baseball and
when they are allowed to concentrate on baseball alone for an entire week, positive results
prevailed.
Our style of baseball is to hit the ball hard on the ground and put a lot of pressure on the
defense, but our team is also equipped with a lot of power and we certainly flexed our
muscles in Cooperstown, as we belted out a tournament record, forty three home runs in ten
games. Our defense and pitching was equally impressive in Cooperstown. It was truly a team
effort! ! !
The experience in Cooperstown was filled with life-long memories for all our players, coaches
and parents, not only on the field, but in the barracks and in All-Star Village, playing
3
whiffle ball and getting to know other players from across the country. Many of our players
t shared that this experience was the best experience of their lives.
The championship game was viewed by over one thousand fans, along with the other twenty two
tournament teams and their coaches and parents, as the closing ceremonies take place after
the game. The game was announced, the National Anthem was sung and the kids felt like Big
Leaguers with music playing at the breaks. My best moment of the tournament was after the
championship game, sitting back and watching our players faces light up. All their hard work
and commitment was realized by winning a National Championship.
Please feel free to check our accomplishments at www.palmdeserttoros.com.
