Committee Chair Elle Wohlmuth called the meeting to order at 6 p.m.

IV. CONSENT CALENDAR
A. APPROVAL OF THE DECEMBER 1, 2008, MEETING MINUTES
Member Ally McCollister moved, by Minute Motion, to approve the minutes of the
December 1, 2008, meeting. Motion was seconded by Member Carl Gerhardt and carried
by unanimous vote.
V. NEW BUSINESS
A. PRESENTATION BY SAFE HOUSE OF THE DESERT
REPRESENTATIVE MIKE SCACCO.
MIKE SCACCO gave a presentation on the history of Safe House of the
Desert and outlined the services provided. He added that an event will be
held at the site on Saturday, January 24, 2009. He invited all Committee
members to attend.
Chair Wohlmuth requested that Ms. Scully agendize a follow-up item for
the next agenda to provide an opportunity for a report. At that time, it will
be determined what, if anything, the Committee can do to assist this
project.
B. GOLF CART PARTICIPATION
Ms. Scully inquired, and the Committee responded, that they would like to
have an entry in the 2009 Parade and also volunteer as they did in 2008.
Chair Wohlmuth requested that Ms. Scully invite representatives of the
Golf Cart Parade to the June meeting so that an overview of the event
and volunteer activities can be outlined.
C. DISCUSSION OF CITY SPONSORED PROGRAMS: ORAL REPORT BY
PAT SCULLY.
No report.
VI. CONTINUED BUSINESS
A. COMMUNITY UPDATES
1. Community Youth Gathering - Antonia Gutierrez
No report.
2. Community Display- Kate Hart
Upon inquiry by Member Kate Hart, Ms. Scully responded that she
met with Patrick Schruben the owner of Express Frames who has
volunteered to frame and mount the photographs for the

Community's display. Ms. Scully added that she also met with
Assistant City Manager Sheila Gilligan and Joslyn Senior Center
Executive Director Peter Rittenhouse who both agreed that there
may be an opportunity to have a few photographs permanently
placed in City Hall and the Senior Center if they are appropriately
framed.
3. Activity w/ Senior Center- Jonny Rohrbaugh
Member Jonny Rohrbaugh stated that he, Ms. Scully, and
Member Abby Sturgeon have a meeting scheduled with Joslyn
Senior Center Executive Director Peter Rittenhouse on January
21 at 3 p.m. He will have more details about the upcoming activity
at the February meeting.
4. Middle School Mentoring Program -Alison McCollister
After much discussion about the effectiveness of the Program as it
is currently structured, it was decided that several members of the
Committee, which is headed by Member McCollister, will meet
with the group at the Middle School in January. If it is decided that
the meetings are not productive this program will be dropped.
5. New Member Mentoring - Jenna Scott
Vice Chair Jenna Scott introduced Adam Chaplin and welcomed
him to the Committee.
6. Resource Guide - Ryan Sheehy
Member Ryan Sheehy stated that he will begin collating the
material for the resource guide this week and should have it to
City staff no later than the end of next week.
7. School Beautification Project-Alahna Dunbar
Member Alahna Dunbar stated that she attempted to contact
individuals at Palm Desert Community Church regarding the
School Beautification Project. Alternate member Jason Richard
stated that his mother worked there. Ms. Scully requested that
Mr. Richard and Ms. Dunbar work together to schedule a date with
the Church to work on the Project. She stated that the school
should be providing all of the supplies.
8. Rotary Youth Committee Service Project- Katie Pawelczyk
Upon question by Member Katie Pawelczyk, Ms. Scully responded
that the meeting with Palms to Pines Rotary President Jim Brock
was still scheduled for Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Ms. Scully
stated that interested members should plan to arrive at Desert

Falls Country Club at 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday to meet with the
President and invited those who would be able to stay for
breakfast.

VIII. iNFORMATIONAL ITEMS
A. CITY COUNC�L ISSUES
1. Election of Mayor for 2009
Ms. Scully reported that Robert Spiegel was elected Mayor for
2009.
B. STAFF
1. RYLA
Ms. Scully inquired as to how many individuals had applied for
RYLA. She added that five scholarships would be coming from
Palms to Pines Rotary and five would be forthcoming from the
noon Rotary Club. Upon inquiry by the Committee members, she
stated that interviews would be held in January and selections
would be made in February.
2. Meeting Attendance
Ms. Scully reminded the Committee that regulations would be
strictly enforced for all members and alternates in 2009 with
regard to meeting attendance. The City Ordinance allows two
absences during the calendar year. A third absence would
constitute an automatic resignation.
3. Participation in Events
Ms. Scully reminded the Committee that in order to maintain
membership on the Youth Committee, members are expected to
participate in all sponsored Committee activities.
4. Event Attire
Ms. Scully reminded the Committee that senior staff had brought
to her attention that some members were not appropriately attired
at events. Youth Committee sponsored events require members
to attend in their logoed shirts that were provided to them for this
purpose. Members whose shirts are not appropriately maintained
should not expect to participate in any events. NO EXECPTIONS.

5. Committee Assignments
Ms. Scully suggested that Committee assignments for the coming
season be made at the June meeting so as to allow the entire
summer for members to work on their projects.

Upon a motion by Member Sturgeon and second by Member Raine Armstrong
the meeting was adjourned at 6:54 p.m. Motion carried by unanimous vote.
