VII. OLD BUSINESS
A. Update on budgeted projects
Rachelle Klassen gave an update on the budget and library activities.
The City's audio visual consultant was at the Library completing final
measurements and taking pictures of the Community Room. The
consultant will make a recommendation as to what would be needed to
hard wire the sound system and the possibility of installing big screen
television monitors.
With Committee concurrence the report was received and filed.
VIII. REPORTS AND REMARKS
A. Council Member Jean Benson
Mayor Benson reported that the City would probably not be getting
additional Library space from College of the Desert. She suggested that
it may be more feasible to open a Library in another location rather than
enlarging the existing Library.
B. Librarian's Report(Jeannie Kays)
Ms. Kays spoke about November events at the Library. She said the
monthly calendar of events was very popular and patrons continually ask
for it before it is printed.
The Library's new Young Adult Associate started in February. Ms. Kays
was very pleased with her programs and young adult attendance has
increased.
The Library will host its annual Halloween party on Wednesday, October
29.
There were 640 children and 157 teens enrolled in the Library's Summer
Reading program. The total number of patrons who attended the Library's
summer programs was 2,326.
Ms. Kays reported that she ordered bookcases for the Library to use for
display areas.
She reported that the Cathedral City Library has a temporary location.
The Library is expected to reopen in January 2009.

attending the event, as well as Jan from Kitchen Kitchen.
Ms. Kays reported that the Library's computer system will be down for two
days due to upgrading.
Upon question by Ella Manor, Ms. Kays responded that installation of
fiber optics for the computers could take 30 to 60 days. She stated that
they might be looking into alternative funding to help out with the cost,
i.e., grant funding.

overview of how the book room was doing, as well as internet book sales.
Ms. Beasley reported that she attended the CFLAC meeting.
Representatives from each Library and LSSI staff members were also in
attendance. She gave a brief report on the issues discussed at the
meeting. The Committee meets quarterly at different Libraries throughout
the county. It's a good opportunity to learn about what is happening at
other Libraries. To learn about the problems other facilities were facing,
new ideas, and an opportunity for everyone to share tips they have for
getting donations. She felt it was a very useful committee and she was
happy to take over for Ella Manor.
Ms. Beasley distributed brochures that list books that are age appropriate.
