PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
STAFF REPORT
REQUEST: Rescind Declaration of Surplus Property, Restoring Vehicle
Number 221 (Shuttle Van) to the City Fleet Inventory
SUBMITTED BY: Mark Greenwood, P.E., Director of Public Works
DATE: June 11, 2009
ATTACHMENT: None
Recommendation:
By Minute Motion, rescind that portion of a declaration of surplus property
involving Vehicle No. 221 (shuttle van) and restore it to the City's vehicle fleet
inventory.
Discussion:
On January 8, 2009, the City Council approved staff's request to declare surplus
miscellaneous vehicles and equipment. The list of vehicles and equipment so declared
included one of the shuttle vans formerly used in the Shopper Hopper program.
Identified as Vehicle No. 221, this shuttle van is still in usable condition and was
therefore to be donated to a local non-profit organization. However, in recent weeks
staff has had several occasions to utilize this shuttle van and, upon further
consideration, recommends retaining it as part of the City fleet.
Fiscal Impact:
The City spent approximately $4,800 to prepare this vehicle for donation. The decision
to return the vehicle to the City's fleet inventory will allow the City to benefit from this
expenditure. Approval of this request will, however, obligate the City to provide
maintenance, insurance and registration for the vehicle. These nominal costs are
adequately budgeted in their respective accounts for fiscal year 2009-2010.
