Committee Chair Elle Wohlmuth called the meeting to order at 6 p.m.

IV. CONSENT CALENDAR
A. APPROVAL OF THE JANUARY 5, 2009, MEETING MINUTES
Co-chair Jenna Scott moved, by Minute Motion, to approve the minutes of the
January 5, 2009, meeting. Motion was seconded by Member Bryce Griffith and carried by
unanimous vote.
V. NEW BUSINESS
A. SUB-COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS
Pat Scully distributed a list of events and activities that were sponsored
by the Committee in the past and requested that the Committee begin
considering which sub-committees they would like to be assigned to and
add any events they would like to see the Committee sponsor in the
upcoming year. This will be a continuing project and assignments will be
made at the June meeting.
VI. CONTINUED BUSINESS
A. FOLLOW UP OF SAFE HOUSE OF THE DESERT ACTIVITY
After extensive discussion, the Committee requested that Ms. Scully
contact on-site staff at Safehouse of the Desert to see if the Youth
Committee could assist or work with the residents at that location.
B. PROPOSED SUSPENSION OF PALM DESERT MIDDLE SCHOOL
MENTORING PROGRAM
After extensive discussion, the Committee decided to suspend the Palm
Desert Middle School mentoring program as it is currently structured since
the results are negligible. Chair Wohlmuth suggested that the Youth
Committee could put on a quarterly program. In conclusion, Ms. Scully
will contact officials at the Palm Desert Middle School to ascertain their
ideas for a successful community engagement program.
C. COMMITTEE UPDATES
1. Jr/Sr Golf Tournament— Briana Nolan
Member Briana Nolan reported that Darrell Souza will attend the
March meeting to discuss the tournament. The date of the
tournament has been scheduled for September 20, 2009.
2. Community Youth Gathering -Antonia Gutierrez
Member Toni Gutierrez suggested that she contact Hidden
Harvest and inquire as to how the Youth Committee could conduct

a fruit drive for needy families in the City of Palm Desert. She will
provide a report after she has contacted Hidden Harvest.
3. Community Display- Kate Hart
Member Kate Hart announced that a group picture will be taken at
the April meeting along with individual pictures. She will distribute
an interview sheet so that members could be featured at the
Community Display scheduled to be held in July and August at the
Visitor Center. Ms. Scully added that she will contact Patrick
Schruben, prior to the next meeting, to have him begin work on
grouping and framing the pictures so the Committee will be ready
for the unveiling in July.
4. Activity w/ Senior Center- Jonny Rohrbaugh
Member Jonny Rohrbaugh announced that he, Member Abby
Sturgeon, and Ms. Scully met with Peter Rittenhouse the
Executive Director of the Senior Center. Several activities
including Wii bowling, croquette, checkers, chess, scrabble,
yahtzee, etc., will be played on game night, which is scheduled
from 3 — 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009. Sign up sheets will
be distributed at the next meeting. Ms. Scully reminded Member
Rohrbaugh to have someone take care of refreshments and other
duties associated with the event.
5. Middle School Mentoring Program -Alison McCollister
This item was discussed under Old Business IV. B.
6. New Member Mentoring - Jenna Scott
No report.
7. Resource Guide - Ryan Sheehy
Member Ryan Sheehy reported that the draft resource guide was
turned over to City staff for typing. Ms. Scully reported that Lori
Wimbish was in the process of organizing how the guide will be
produced. Further report will be given at the next meeting. Chair
Wohlmuth distributed the photograph for the cover and Member
Raine Armstrong volunteered to take another picture to see if the
image could be improved.
8. School Beautification Project-Alahna Dunbar
Member Alahna Dunbar reported that the School Beautification
Project has been scheduled for February 13, at Palm Desert
Community Church from 9 — 12 p.m. Students will be requested

to paint picnic tables at the pre-school. A sign up sheet was
distributed to Committee members for this activity.
9. Rotary Youth Committee Service Project - Katie Pawelczyk
Member Katie Pawelczyk reported that Senior Center Executive
Director Peter Rittenhouse and Palms to Pines Rotary President
Jim Brock will attend the March meeting to finalize the
arrangements. She distributed a sign up sheet for this activity and
reported that the event will be held on April 25 from 8 — 12 noon.
A barbeque luncheon will follow at the Senior Center.

B. STAFF
1. RYLA
Ms. Scully inquired how many Committee members were selected
for RYLA and reminded them to turn in their paperwork.
2. Thank You from Abraham Lincoln Elementary School
Ms. Scully read a letter from Principal Joe Garner thanking the
Youth Committee for their efforts on behalf of Lincoln Elementary
School for the Christmas party.
3. Update of Telephone List
Ms. Sully passed around a sign up sheet to update Committee
member's phone numbers. Hopefully it will be available at the
March meeting.

B. STAFF
Ms. Scully reminded the Committee that as minors it is not advisable to
loiter in the parking lot. Those waiting for rides should wait by the door to
the meeting room.
Ms. Scully congratulated Member Hart on being named Student of the
Month as Palm Desert High School.
X. ADJOURNMENT
Upon a motion by Member Rohrbaugh and second by Member Armstrong the
meeting was adjourned at 6:43 p.m. Motion carried by unanimous vote.
