prepared a formal presentation and resource guide that
provides important assistance for assembling staff
reports. They are to be commended for their innovation
and excellence in teamwork.
Russell Grance Improved City Image: A letter was received from a
builder who complimented Mr. Ortiz for his calm
demeanor, and indicated that his knowledge and
thoroughness exceeds most in his job. He also indicated
that Mr. Ortiz was helpful in discussing not only code
issues, but those that would help with the overall quality
of the finished product. Mr. Ortiz is to be commended

Improved City Image: At the March 26, 2009, City
John Wohlmuth Council meeting, Mr. Douglas Galloway, Palm Desert
Youth Sports Association representative, provided public
comments on the success of the PD Little League
Baseball Opening Day 2009. He stated that the
coordination of the event was an ambitious task,
requiring numerous meetings with City staff. He publicly
commended Janis and her staff for their tremendous
cooperation and assistance that he felt went above and
beyond the call of duty. As the City's representative,
Janis exhibited a high level of professionalism and
customer service that is to be commended.
Lauri Aylaian Meritorious Service -Above and Beyond: For almost a
year, Mr. Swartz handled a very contentious planning
case that stemmed from a dispute between two neighbors.
He was able to be impartial, professional, and patient, and
spent many hours exploring creative solutions to resolve
their concerns and to mediate the dispute. When the case
was resolved by the City Council in favor of one party,
the other party took the time to write a letter of
appreciation stating that Mr. Swartz "has the composure,
confidence, and maturity of someone twenty years his
senior" and that he is "truly a refreshing example of our
next generation". Kevin is to be congratulated for
providing such excellent customer service.
