Staff Report Award of contract to Brett Fiore of Signature Sculpture Restoration and Maintenance for maintenance of the City of Palm Desert's Public Art Collection and the EI Paseo Invitational Exhibition Page 2 May 7, 2009[Type text] Background: Several years ago, staff was given direction to develop a professional art maintenance program in order to keep the City's art collection clean and in good condition. In January, staff advertised an RFP for the maintenance of the City of Palm Desert's public art collection and received bids from four companies. Upon receipt, the bids did not specify past experience in art conservation and maintenance. At its meeting of March 26, 2009, City Council rejected all bids and directed staff to readvertise. Staff revised the RFP to include additional conditions such as one year experience and knowledge of cleaning of inetals, glass, mosaics, various patinas and painting methods and applications. On April 15, 2009, two bids were received. For the past year, the contract for public art maintenance services has been performed by Same Day Express and staff has been pleased with the services Mr. Fiore has provided and is confident those services will continue. Following were the bids received for the Public Art Maintenance Program. 1. Signature Sculpture Restoration and Maintenance $37,500.00 2. Michael Volpone $51,500.00 After reviewing the attached bids, staff believes the lowest bidder is qualified and is recommending acceptance of this proposal.
