recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy — and those
people active in the philanthropic community — make to our world; and
Whereas, more than 100 communities in the United States and 50,000
people around the world are celebrating National Philanthropy Day® this month in
recognition of the generosity of Americans who contribute more than $300 billion
every year in support of millions of nonprofit organizations; and
Whereas, this marks the 24th anniversary that the Association of
Fundraising Professionals (AFP) has sponsored National Philanthropy Day®to honor
individuals and groups who, through their hard work and dedication, have enhanced
philanthropy and their communities. This special day also serves to acknowledge
the entire spectrum of services provided by the nonprofit community and the
profound impact that philanthropy has on the fabric of society; and
Whereas, the Desert Communities Chapter of the AFP is celebrating its 3rd
annual National Philanthropy Day® awards luncheon on November 18, 2009, to
recognize and honor outstanding philanthropists and volunteers in the Coachella
Valley who "Change the World With a Giving Heart."
Now, Therefore, I, Robert A. Spiegel, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert,
California, Do Hereby Proclaim November 18, 2009, as
National Philanthropy Day®
in the City of Palm Desert and urge all citizens to pay tribute to those outstanding
individual donors, volunteers, businesses, foundations, and youth in philanthropy for
their efforts on a daily basis in service to those in need in the local community and
beyond.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and have
caused the Official Seal of the City of Palm Desert,
California, to be affixed this 12th day of November, 2009.

Dear Mr. Wohlmuth:
You may have already received an invitation to the
Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) lunch on
November 18, 2009 to recognize the National Philanthropy
Day, but I am attaching an invitation just in case it did not
reach you.
The AFP Desert Chapter would like to bring to your
consideration the attached proclamation and respectfully ask
if you would kindly consider placing it on the agenda for the
November 1 2009 City Council meeting.
If this request meets with your approval, I will notify Ms.
Colleen McBride, chapter president, and she will attend the
Council meeting to represent the association and the local
chapter.
