CITY OF PALM DESERT
OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
STAFF REPORT
REQUEST: APPROVAL OF A FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT
FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES BETWEEN THE COUNTY
OF RIVERSIDE AND THE CITY OF PALM DESERT
SUBMITTED BY: Stephen Y. Aryan, Assistant to the City Manager
DATE: September 10, 2009
ATTACHMENT: First Amendment to the Law Enforcement Services Agreement
Recommendation
By Minute Motion: APPROVE the First Amendment to the Agreement for Law
Enforcement Services Between the County of Riverside and the City of Palm Desert.
Backqround
In 2008, the City of Palm Desert entered into a three year agreement with the County of
Riverside to provide law enforcement services. The City Council recently approved the
FY 2009/2010 Palm Desert Police Department Budget at a cost of$15,443,796.
This amount reflects changes to staffing levels from those indicated within the
Agreement. Specifically, two Sheriff Service Officer II positions were removed and a
Deputy Sheriff position was included to serve as the City's representative on the
Coachella Valley Narcotics Task Force.
These changes necessitate an amendment to the Agreement's "Attachment A" that
specifies the level of service the City of Palm Desert receives relative to Police
Department staffing. There are no other changes to the contract than those previously
specified and approved by the City Council as part of the FY 2009/2010 Palm Desert
Financial Plan.
