SUBMITTED BY: Stephen Y. Funds are available in the FY 2010-2011 Budget. Background The Palm Desert Sister Cities Foundation (the Foundation) will hold its third annual September Concert on Saturday, September 11, 2010. The September Concert began in 2002 as a small, local grassroots effort and has steadily evolved to be a global celebration of peace and humanity through music. The September Concert is based on three basic principles: • Freedom to organize a concert of any kind; • Equality among different music and musicians; and • Accessibility — all concerts are free This year marks the third September Concert hosted by the Foundation. The Foundation requests financial support from the City of Palm Desert to help alleviate the acoustical setup, which is a significant cost of this event. The Foundation is spearheading the organization and funding of this event as well as providing volunteer staffing. Although the Foundation is leading this endeavor, the event is still closely affiliated with the City. Staff recommends assisting the Foundation with offsetting the acoustical setup by providing funding in the amount of $2,500. City staff will also provide their expertise to assist with promoting the event and volunteering their time the day of the event; at no cost to the City.
