Commission Recommendation On February 10, 2010, the Palm Desert Public Safety Commission ratified the request for attendance at the Basic Motorcycle Academy, as the training date prevented the Commission from reviewing it at their January 13, 2010, meeting. Backaround The Palm Desert Police Department expended $3,934.00 in CAL Cops funds to send Officer Francisco Velasco, who is currently assigned to the Palm Desert Police Department's Traffic Services Team as a new Motor Officer, to a 80-hour Basic Motorcycle Academy at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's EVOC Center, January 11-22, 2010. This conference is designated as "Essential Training" for those officers assigned to operate as a Motor Officer. The total cost for the training was $3,934.00, which included lodging, meals and motorcycle rental. Tuition costs of $1,329.00 are billed directly to POST upon successful completion of the course.
