Since this is a main thoroughfare into the shopping district, staff does not recommend closing the street. Instead, Public Works staff along with the Palm Desert Police and Fire Departments would work together to close only one lane on each side of the street. This would allow for set-up of stages and a safety zone, but still allow for the flow of traffic throughout the day. If approved, permits for the use of the sidewalk and the lane closure will be issued by the Public Works Department as an encroachment permit. The permits will be issued after the Alcohol Beverage Control Board issues permits for the event, and the event is reviewed by the Palm Desert Police Department. Staff will work with the event organizers on specific hours for operation that conform to noise ordinances. Fiscal Analysis There is no fiscal impact associated with this request.
