Recommendation
By Minute Motion:
1. That the City Council authorize the surplus of furniture within the
former Parks satellite office; and
2. Authorize the City Manager to enter into a purchase and sale
agreement with the Desert Recreation District (DRD) for $15,750
(75 percent of the original cost).
Backqround
The former Parks satellite office is located at the northeast corner of the Palm Desert
Community Center building within Civic Center Park. The re-organization process that
has occurred has left those offices unoccupied. The DRD has expressed an interest in
utilizing this space for their sports programming division, which is currently scattered
throughout different locations. The DRD has indicated that this space would not only
allow them to function more efficiently, but will also provide a more convenient location
for participants, users, and contractors of Palm Desert who now have to travel to Indio.
Fiscal Analysis
The existing lease agreement with the DRD for the Community Center covers the entire
building in a one dollar per year lease. Historically, City staff has occupied the offices to
the rear of the building; however, no amendment to the existing lease agreement is

needed to allow the use by DRD. DRD proposes to occupy the space and pay all
normal operating costs for the offices.
The City recently completed a renovation of those offices that included $21,000 in
furniture costs. City staff has proposed that the DRD reimburse the City for 75 percent
of the original cost for furniture, or $15,750. The furniture will belong to the DRD, which
will relieve the City of any obligation for future maintenance.
The proposal will be presented to the DRD Board for approval at its next meeting. The
proposal would result in a payment to the City of $15,750 for the surplus furniture if
approved by the City Council and the DRD. No additional expenses will be incurred by
the City relating to the move.

Re: Proposed use of office space at Palm Desert Community Center
Dear Stan:
Thank you for your recent correspondence requesting additional office space at the
Palm Desert Community Center. We appreciate your effort to increase customer
service and feel this opportunity can be mutuaNy beneficial.
It will be my recommendation that the additiona! space be incorporated into the existing
lease with the Desert Recreation District at no additiona! annual cost. However, the City
recently invested $21,000 in furniture for the space which I am requesting the Desert
Recreation District purchase for$15,750 (75% of the original cost).
If these terms are acceptable to the Desert Recreation District please prepare a draft
amendment to the existing lease and I will present it to the City Council for
consideration.
Please call me if you would like to discuss this matter further, at (760) 346-0611
