Commission Recommendation
On June 9, 2010, the Palm Desert Public Safety Commission concurred with the Palm
Desert Police Department's recommendation that the City Council authorize staff to
apply for and accept the United States Department of Justice BJA Justice Assistance
Grant (JAG) Program FY 2010 Local Solicitation.
Background
In May 2010, the Palm Desert Police Department completed an application for $11,800
in grant funds provided by the United States Department of Justice BJA FY 2010
Justice Assistance Grant Program. This award program runs from October 1, 2009,
through September 30, 2013.
These grant funds will be used to purchase five (5) computers and five (5) document
scanners for use by the Palm Desert Police Department. Much of the Palm Desert
Police Department's computer equipment is outdated and lacks storage space and
updated capabilities.
In addition, the Police Department is preparing to move into a new Sheriff's Station on
Gerald Ford Drive in July 2010. This equipment will be used to outfit several additional
work stations that will be utilized by existing Special Enforcement Team, Business
District, and Traffic officers.
