HomeMy WebLinkAboutPrsntatn - Boy Scout Troop 131 DayWhereas, the Boy Scouts of America was founded on February 8,1910, by William Boyce and a group of businessmen, educators, and political leaders based on the standard of "Do a Good Deed Daily"; and Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America have consistently applied the principles of service to others in its philosophy and its actions; and Whereas, the Scout Law defines a scout as trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. The Scout Oath and Law enunciate principles common to all religions and cultures and therefore is a common bond among peoples throughout the world; and Whereas, scouting's outdoor experiences teach young people to be responsible — not only for themselves but for those around them; and Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th Anniversary in 2010 with a year -long series of events; and Whereas, Palm Desert Troop 131 embodies the scout philosophy that was the cornerstone of its founders in 1910. Now, Therefore, I, Cindy Finerty, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert, California, Do Hereby Proclaim Thursday, March 25, 2010, as Boy Scout Troop 131 Day in the City of Palm Desert in recognition of its commitment to developing strong character, good values, and healthy bodies in today's youth and joins in the centennial celebration of the Boy Scouts of America.
