Funds are budgeted in General Fund Account No. 110-4331-413-3340, Repairs and Maintenance-Motor Vehicle Fleet. Discussion The City's fleet inventory consists of 86 vehicles ranging from small sedans to heavy- duty trucks operating on electricity, gasoline, compressed natural gas (CNG), propane, diesel, or a combination of these fuels. The City's maintenance facility is neither equipped, nor staffed to accomplish all necessary repairs and maintenance of these Staff Report Approve Use of Specific Automotive Services May 27, 2010 Page 2 of 2 vehicles. The City has relied on outside service facilities to perform repairs that are beyond our service capabilities. A vehicle repair survey has been prepared that illustrates four local repair facilities and the variety of inechanical services they provide: Ozzie's Automotive Inc., Hilltop Automotive, Kim's Automotive, and Palms to Pines. All these facilities are in close proximity to our maintenance services facility. However, Ozzie's Automotive has been selected as the primary source for fleet repair services based on the hourly rate of $79.00, and their ability to provide the necessary repairs to all of the City's fleet vehicles including CNG alternative-fuel vehicles. In circumstances where Ozzie's Automotive cannot perform fleet repair services, staff needs to have an alternative source for acquiring fleet repair services. Hilltop Automotive is another automotive repair service facility with the ability to provide fleet repair services similar to Ozzie's Automotive. Their hourly rate is $85.00 for work performed on gas and diesel vehicles, and $105.00 for work performed on CNG and hybrid vehicles. Fiscal Analvsis This is a necessary, on-going expense with no fiscal impact beyond the cost of repairing City vehicles. Approval of this request may result in savings to the City in staff time and effort by avoiding delays in procurement of general fleet repair services that cannot be accomplished by staff.
