STAFF REPORT
REQUEST: AUTHORIZE THE LANDSCAPE MANAGER TO ATTEND THE
2010 IRRIGATION ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE IN PHOENIX,
ARIZONA, FROM DECEMBER 4 TO DECEMBER 7, 2010
SUBMITTED BY: Mark Greenwood, P.E., Director of Public Works
DATE: October 14, 2010
CONTENTS: 2010 Attendee Brochure
Recommendation
By Minute Motion, authorize the Landscape Manager to attend the 2010
Irrigation Association Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, from December 4
to December 7, 2010.
Funds are available in General Fund Account No. 110-4614-453-3120, Landscape
Services Conference/Seminars/Workshops.
Backqround
The Landscape Manager is a Certified Landscape Irrigator Auditor (CLIA) and 10 CEUs
per year are required to maintain this certification. Attending the Annual Irrigation
Conference provides the opportunity for the Landscape Manager to take classes to
obtain the needed CEUs for the next two-year certification period, and to stay current on
new irrigation equipment and technologies while networking with other professionals.
This education and networking opportunity will advance the Landscape Services
Division's efforts in landscape maintenance and water conservation.
The Landscape Manager will also be testing to become a Certified Landscape Water
Manager through the Irrigation Association Professional Certification Program. This
certification will further demonstrate the City's commitment to water conservation and
the expertise of its staff.
The registration fee for the conference is $200; and with $370 for the education classes
and approximately $1,250 for transportation and travel-related expenses (based on the
Staff Report

U.S. General Services Administration Domestic Per Diem Rates for Phoenix, Arizona),
the estimated total cost is $1,820.
Fiscal Analysis
Approval of the Landscape Manager's attendance at this conference affords the
opportunity to obtain the CEUs required for a two-year certification period as opposed to
attending numerous classes that may or may not be offered locally.
