REQUEST: 2010 CITY OF PALM DESERT/AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS GOLF
CART PARADE ENTRY AND PARTICIPATION
SUBMITTED BY: Frankie Riddle, Director of Special Programs

Recommendation
By Minute Motion, direct staff as to which City Council member would like to ride on the
City/Afterschool Programs' decorated golf cart at the 2010 Golf Cart Parade.
Discussion
City staff approached Lincoln Elementary School and Palm Desert Charter Middle School to
determine if the operators of the Afterschool Programs would be interested in partnering with
the City to create a golf cart entry for the 2010 Golf Cart Parade. The idea was positively
accepted, and the Afterschool Programs have begun recruiting kids and parents to assist in
building the entry. The golf cart's theme is "Fangs to the City of Palm Desert for Your Un-dying
Support." The design includes a haunted house with vampires and other Halloween
decorations.
Since the City is sponsoring the golf cart entry and this is a partnership between the schools
and the City, staff is inquiring if there is a City Council member interested in participating as a
rider on the float. Other riders on the float include Sallie Fraser, Principal of Palm Desert
Charter Middle School; Jill Garner, Principal of Lincoln Elementary; and Paul Gibson, Director of
Finance (driver). There will be approximately 30 kids from the Afterschool Programs dressed as
mini -vampires, as well as a few parents/adults walking with the float.
