Aryan, Assistant to the City Manager DATE: April 28, 2011 CONTENTS: Training Information Recommendation By Minute Motion, approve the Palm Desert Police Department's request to expend funds, not to exceed $2,649, for sending a motor officer to a Basic Motorcycle Academy Training at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department EVOC Center (San Bernardino, CA). Funds are available under the CalCops program (Account # 229-4210-422-3914). Commission Recommendation On March 29, 2011, the Palm Desert Public Safety Commission recommended that the City Council approve the Palm Desert Police Department's recommendation to send a motor officer to a Basic Motorcycle Academy Training at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department EVOC Center (San Bernardino, CA). Background The Palm Desert Police Department recently filled a vacancy to the Palm Desert Police Department's Traffic Services Team. Specifically, a new motor officer was assigned to this team. The Department requests that this officer attend an eighty hour Basic Motorcycle Academy at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department EVOC Center, from May 16-17, 2011. This conference is designated as "Essential Training" for those officers assigned to operate as motor officers.
