Subject: INFORMATIONAL ITEM — CITY MANAGER MEETING SUMMARIES
Following are meetings held with groups, residents, and/or businesses for the period
April 6-19, 2011:
April 6 COVE COMMUNITIES SERVICES COMMISSION TAC MEETING
Met with Cove Commission TAC members to discuss April 13 Cove
Commission Agenda.
STAFF MEETING
Discussed the budget process with staff and April 14 City Council Agenda.
April 7 BUDGET MEETING WITH CITY COUNCIL
Discussed the Public Works operational budget and the Capital
Improvement Budget.
April 8 WEEKLY MEETING WITH MAYOR BENSON AND DAVE ERWIN
A weekly meeting to provide City Manager with follow-up items and
discuss ongoing projects and programs.
SENIOR INSPIRATION AWARDS
Attended this event, held at the Riviera Resort and Spa in Palm Springs.
City of Palm Desert recognized Earle Wolfe, Patrol Lieutenant with Palm
Desert Citizens on Patrol (COPS).

April 11 EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT MEETING
Weekly Department Head meeting.
CVAG TAC
City Managers met to review the Executive Committee Agenda for CVAG.
Primary issue was the funding formula for the 1-10 interchanges. TAC
voted to continue the funding formula for one month.
VISITOR CENTER OPERATOR INTERVIEWS
Interviewed two of the three Visitor Center operator proposers.
April 12 COUNCIL BUDGET MEETING
Continued the budget discussions with the City Council. Reviewed the
City Clerk, City Manager, Planning, Building and Safety, Special
Programs, Fire, Police, Finance, and Human Resources budgets.
Provided follow-up from Council inquiries during first budget session.
April 13 COVE COMMUNITIES SERVICES COMMISSION
The Cove Commission met and received reports. There was not a
quorum, so no votes were taken. The Commission decided not to hold a
year-end dinner; rather, hold a lunch or afternoon meeting with some food
to recommend a budget and recognize a few public safety officials.
VISITOR CENTER OPERATOR INTERVIEWS
Interviewed the third proposer for the Visitor Center operation. A staff
report will come before the City Council on options to staff or contract the
Visitor Center operation.
HOUSING COMMISSION
Attended the Palm Desert Housing Commission meeting.

April 14 DESERT WILLOW PRESIDENT'S MEETING
Finalized the Desert Willow budget and identified priorities for Capital
Improvements.
CITY COUNCIL STUDY SESSION WITH COACHELLA VALLEY
ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP (CVEP)
Tom Flavin, Executive Director of CVEP, discussed progress of CVEP and
where it is heading. CVEP is requesting $50,000 for FY 2011/12 (same
level as last year).
April 15 MEETING WITH MARK GREENWOOD AT AQUATIC CENTER
Toured the Palm Desert Aquatic Center to observe progress.
MIKE DANIELS OF KESQ
KESQ Investigative Reporter asked to interview me regarding the
Redevelopment issue and the possible elimination of RDA proposed in the
Governor's budget.
MEETING WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF VONS
Vons representatives met with a couple of Councilmembers and asked to
provide a status update on their application for me.
MEETING WITH MAGGIE WATKINS
Best, Best & Krieger Marketing Manager Maggie Watkins asked me to
provide information on how our City Attorney contract is working out.
VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION DINNER AT DESERT WILLOW
Attended the Volunteer Recognition Dinner at Desert Willow. The dinner
was a success thanks to Mary LaCross. The volunteers seemed very
appreciative.

April 18 EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT MEETING
Weekly Department Head meeting.
MEETING WITH MARK GREENWOOD
Mark Greenwood, Spencer Knight, and I toured the McCallum parking lot
to assess the cost of repairs and make recommendations to the McCallum
on repair and landscaping. Also visited the PSAM Palm Desert to review
damage by PSAM contractors. Finally, we reviewed the Ocotillo/El Paseo
intersection.
PRE -MEETING WITH LORI CARNEY RE: PDEO
Reviewed memo prepared by Ms. Carney to state City's position on future
three-year MOU.
PDEO NEGOTIATIONS
Proposed new three-year MOU with PDEO. PDEO anticipates giving
feedback on or before April 28, 2011.
April 19 MEETING WITH SABBY JONATHAN AND ROB BALLEW
The YMCA proposed a 10,000 square foot expansion of the Palm Desert
YMCA facility. Mark Greenwood, Justin McCarthy, and I met with Rob
Ballew and Sabby Jonathan.
