REQUEST: CONSIDERATION OF CHANGING DATE OF SECOND REGULAR
CITY COUNCIL MEETING IN SEPTEMBER DUE TO THE LEAGUE OF
CALIFORNIA CITIES ANNUAL CONFERENCE, SEPTEMBER 21-23, 2011, IN
SAN FRANCISCO.

Recommendation
By Minute Motion, change date of the second regular City Council Meeting in September
that would be held Thursday, September 22, 2011, at 3:00 p.m., and adjourn it to
Thursday, September 29, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. for Closed Session, 4:00 p.m. for Regular
Session and Public Hearings.
Background
At the April 28, 2011, regular City Council Meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Spiegel suggested changing the date
of the second meeting in September in order to accommodate attendance at the League of California
Cities Annual Conference, which is being held September 21-23, 2011, in San Francisco.
In order to make such a change, City Council must take the action and direct staff to plan accordingly
therefor. Staff will await the City Council's deliberation and subsequent direction on this request.
Fiscal Analysis
As is known at this time, there is no fiscal impact relative to postponing for one week the second regular
City Council Meeting in the month of September 2011.

o City Council Requests for Action:
1. Palm Springs Art Museum - Councilmember Harnik requested
a City Council Study Session to be scheduled with the Palm
Springs Art Museum for an update.
Mr. Wohlmuth agreed to attempt to set one up on a City
Council meeting date prior to Closed Session.
Councilman Kroonen supported the request and looked
forward to it.
2. Police Report Request - Mayor Pro Tern Spiegel requested a
Police Report on the burglaries on Mountain View, Palm
Desert.
Sgt. Misty Reynolds agreed to provide a report.
3. Leaaue of California Cities Annual Convention - Mayor Pro
Tern Spiegel stated the League of California Cities was holding
the Annual Convention on September 21-23, 2011, which
conflicts with a City Council meeting. He asked staff to see
how the meeting date can be adjusted.
