COMPLETION FOR THE FIRE STATIONS RENOVATION

Recommendation
By Minute Motion: Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion
for the Fire Stations Renovation Project (Contract No. C30300).
Background
On February 24, 2011, the City Council and Agency Board, in joint consideration,
awarded a contract to The Penta Building Group for renovation work to be performed at
City Fire Station No. 33 (44-400 Town Center Way) and City Fire Station No. 71 (79-995
Country Club Drive). The project scope included, but was not limited to the following
components:
• The construction of a new restroom facility;
• Remodel of existing restrooms and dorm rooms;
• New landscaping at both stations;
• Kitchen and pantry remodel;
• Relocation and addition of monument signage;
• Installation of an earthquake warning system;
• A reconfiguration of the front lobby area for ADA access;
• Electrical wiring for placement of ceiling fans; and
• Permanent locker installation
Palm Desert Fire Department Personnel reoccupied both facilities in October 2011. All
work included within Contract No. C30300 has been satisfactorily completed, including
all final inspections performed by all departments and agencies that have jurisdiction.
Minor punch list items remain that are valued well below the retention amount. Staff will
ensure such work is completed before release of the retention funds ($86,187.20).

Staff recommends that the City Clerk be authorized to file a Notice of Completion with
the County Recorder.
Fiscal Analysis
The final project cost was $861,872 funded with Redevelopment funds. This amount
includes two approved change orders totaling $13,723, for structural repairs (Station
No. 33) and additional carpeting (Station No. 71). There is no fiscal impact to the City's
General Fund.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN:
1. That the interest or estate stated in paragraph 3 herein in the real property herein described is LEASED
by the CITY OF PALM DESERT, A PUBLIC BODY, CORPORATE AND POLITIC, a political subdivision of the
State of California, and whose address is 73-510 FRED WARING DRIVE, PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA.
2. That the full name and address of the owner of said interest or estate is set forth in the preceding
paragraph.
3. That the nature of the title of the stated owner, as set forth in paragraph 1, is in Fee.
4. That on the 1st day of December 2011. a work of improvement described as the Fire Stations
Renovations Project, Contract No. C30300, on the real property herein described was completed.
5. That the name of the original contractor, if any, for said work of improvement was: The Penta Building
Group, 44-250 Monterey Avenue, Palm Desert, CA 92260.
6. That the real property herein referred to is situated in the City of Palm Desert, County of Riverside,
State of California, and is described as Fire Station No. 33 (Project No. 613-09), 44-400 Town Center Way,
Palm Desert, California 92260 and Fire Station No. 71 (Project No. 871-09), 73-995 Country Club Drive,
Palm Desert, California 92260.
