HomeMy WebLinkAboutPresentation - Free Application for Federal Student Aid MonthWhereas, the future economy of the Coachella Valley depends on
an educated workforce; and
Whereas, the overwhelming majority of Coachella Valley students
are more likely to be eligible for but less likely to file for financial assistance to
attend college; and
Whereas, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
program is a gateway for many Coachella Valley students and families to be
able to afford a college education; and
Whereas, the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership (CVEP), with
the support of all local school districts and higher education organizations, has
initiated a High School Challenge Competition to stimulate an increase in the
number of FAFSA applications and ultimately the successful financial awards
to local students so they can attend college; and
Whereas, the CVEP High School Challenge Competition has the
potential to add millions of dollars of new economic benefit to the region.
Now, Therefore, I, Jean M. Benson, Mayor of the City of
Palm Desert, California, Do Hereby Proclaim the month of February, 2011, as
FAFSA Month
in the City of Palm Desert and encourage all local high school seniors and
their families to complete a FAFSA application. It's their future, and we want
to be a partner.
