Subject: INFORMATIONAL ITEM — CITY MANAGER MEETING SUMMARIES
Following are meetings held with groups, residents, and/or businesses, for the period January
14-19, 2011:
January 14 SCAG BREAKFAST MEETING
Topics of the meeting included current SCAG initiatives, the 2012 Regional
Transportation Plan, SB 375, Regional Housing Needs Assessment, impact of
the Governor's Budget proposal on Regional Global Warming initiatives as well
as housing requirements.
January 14 JUDY VOSSLER, CVA
Met with Judy Vossler and Scott White, President/CEO of CVA, along with
Justin McCarthy. Discussed CVA's plans including the Blueprint and CVA's
office move in April, 2011.
January 14 DESERT WILLOW GOLF RESORT GRAND RE -OPENING RECEPTION
January 17 Special City Council Meeting
January 18 CALIFORNIA JOINT POWERS INSURANCE AUTHORITY
CJPIA met with executive staff to present the City of Palm Desert Risk
Management evaluation. The evaluation identifies areas for the City to work on
to protect our residents, visitors, employees and finances. Overall, the trends in
all areas are moving in the right direction.

PALMS/CATHEDRAL CITY SPHERE OF INFLUENCE
Mike Gialdini, from Supervisor Benoit's office, discussed possible actions by
LAFCO to modify Cathedral City's Sphere of Influence east into Thousand
Palms.
January 18 AQUATIC CENTER: REVIEW DRAFT SCHEDULE AND BUDGET WITH
YMCA
Discussed the Palm Desert Aquatic Center operational budget with YMCA staff
and Public Works staff. Progress is being made and we envision bringing an
operational contract to the City Council in the next month or two.
January 19 COVE COMMUNITIES SERVICES COMMISSION MEETING
January 19 BOB SPIEGEL, STU BAILY, PEGGY BILOUS OF DESERT CANCER
FOUNDATION
The Desert Cancer Foundation explained the purpose of their important work
and need for assistance. I indicated the process for obtaining CDBG funds and
the Charitable Contribution process for FY 2011-12.
