In 2008, they were part of the Aztecs' squad that battled to a 9-9 tie
in the championship game, only to lose to Diamond Bar on games
84-73. In 2010, their Aztecs lost in the final again. Again it was 9-9,
this time losing to Brentwood 80-75.
On Wednesday, as seniors, the Aztec trio
got a third chance at a title, and this time it
didn't slip through their hands.
The top -seeded Aztecs beat third -seeded Santa Monica 10-8 to
finally get that monkey off their back.

Coach Randy Blalock said it was the seniors who led the way.
"These guys, especially those seniors really wanted this," said
Blalock, who won his first boys' Division II title in his nine seasons.
"Last year, they were that close and they were eager to go from the
beginning of the year this year. This is extra special for them."
Cummins and junior Jack Felich won all three doubles matches in
decisive fashion, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 and Palm Desert rolled up a 9-6 lead
with three sets remaining. This year, not wanting to fall victim to the
tie -breaker, the Aztecs had amassed a 20-game lead at that point,
meaning that even losing three 6-0 sets, they'd still be the
champions.
"Since we went to the two finals we wanted to give them as little
games as possible and we did a good job with that," Cummins said.
"We knew their singles were tough.
