Wohlmuth, City Manager Date: June 23, 2011 Subject: INFORMATIONAL ITEM — CITY MANAGER MEETING SUMMARIES Following are meetings held with groups, residents, and/or businesses, for the period June 1- 14, 2011. June 1 MEETING WITH MAYOR BENSON, COUNCILMAN KROONEN, CAROLYN STARK Meeting to discuss the UCR Medical School and Center for Healthy Living at the Palm Desert Graduate School site. Set the agenda for meeting between UCR Medical School and the City of Palm Desert. The meeting was postponed. June 2 STAFF MEETING Bi-Monthly meeting with staff to discuss Council agenda. June 3 PDEO NEGOTIATIONS Held the final meet and confer meeting. The PDEO approved the management offer 49-13. The MOU will be on the next Council agenda. June 6 EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT MEETING Weekly department head meeting. MEMO TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council DATE: June 23, 2011 SUBJECT: Informational Item —City Manager Meeting Summaries PAGE 2 OF 4 COORDINATION OF DEVELOPMENT SERVICES Monthly meeting to discuss coordination with Building and Safety, Public Works, and Planning. June 7 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING Monthly Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. Discussed the opening of the Aquatic Center, University Dog Park, and trails. MONTHLY ENERGY MEETING Received an update on the FHFA case and status of Energy Independence loans. Discussed an option to partner with group to offer commercial energy improvements. Staff will initiate an R.F.P. The One Stop Pool Pump program will begin again. MEETING WITH FRED BELL AND JEFF SCHROEDER Held a meeting to discuss the CVCC fees and timing of the Ponderosa Homes project. The project was not exempt from the MSHCP fee, although grading was completed prior to the MSHCP permit. MEETING WITH JOSH ZIPPERMAN (VONS) Meeting to discuss and review the Von's traffic analysis. Public Works and Planning staff reviewed and recommended modifications to the traffic analysis with the environmental consultants. June 8 COVE COMMISSION TAC MEETING Discussed the agenda for the Annual Cove Commission meeting and luncheon. The meeting will be held Wednesday, June 15, 11:00 a.m. at the Joslyn Center. CORPORATE YARD SAFETY MEETING Attended the Public Works Corporation Yard Safety Meeting and listened to the safety training on back injury prevention and answered questions on the budget and PDEO MOU. MEMO TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council DATE: June 23, 2011 SUBJECT: Informational Item — City Manager Meeting Summaries PAGE 3OF4 June 9 MEETING WITH PIERO (MAMA GINA'S) AND RUTH ANN MOORE Discussed the Fagade Enhancement grant with Piero and his contractor. Discussed the timing of improvements, including plan check process, with Russell Grance. Discussed the CVWD charges and options for CVWD loan. MEETING WITH STAFF REGARDING BOOT CAMP AT FREEDOM PARK The irrigation system at Freedom Park is and will continue to conflict with the Recreation District Boot Camp classes. As the summer heats up, the need for water on the turf increases, extending irrigation into the early morning hours. The City's priority is to maximize the use of the park while keeping the turf in great condition. Staff discussed asking the Boot Camp to move to the Civic Center Park or University Park due to more flexibility with irrigating the turf. June 10 MEETING WITH STAFF RE: AQUATIC CENTER Visited the Aquatic Center to determine remaining tasks by the contractor to complete the facility. The solar panels, stainless steel counters, and move -in office supplies need to be completed. MEETING WITH ROB BALLEW CONCERNING AQUATIC CENTER GRAND OPENING City staff and YMCA staff discussed the details of the Aquatic Center Grand Opening. Separated the grand opening unveiling from the open -to -the -public swimming so that no one is charged a fee for the grand opening. June 13 EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT MEETING Weekly department head meeting. CVAG TECHNICAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING The monthly CVAG TAC meeting was held. Transportation issues dominated the agenda. Approved street sweeping contract and MEMO TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council DATE: June 23, 2011 SUBJECT: Informational Item —City Manager Meeting Summaries PAGE 4 OF 4 recommended funding approval of the Frank Sinatra Bridge over the Whitewater River. June 14 DESERT WILLOW PRESIDENT'S MEETING Topics of discussion at the monthly meeting included the financials, golf course maintenance report, the wells, water cost analysis, projects, and security systems.
