Rosenblum, Risk Manager DATE: March 10, 2011 CONTENTS: RIMS Annual Conference Materials Recommendation By Minute Motion, approve out -of -country travel for the Risk Manager to participate as a presenter at the National Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Annual Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, on May 2-5, 2011, for a not -to -exceed cost of $800.00. Background Palm Desert's Risk Manager is an invited speaker at the 2011 National Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Annual Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia. The topic he is presenting is titled "Power to the People -Risk Management of Human Capital" and is sponsored by a Western Region Risk Management Chapter. The RIMS Annual Conference is the main international conference for Risk Managers. As the city's Risk Manager is an invited presenter, RIMS is waiving the conference fee and the hotel cost is paid by the sponsoring chapter. The only expenses the Risk Manager will incur for this travel request is airfare, transportation, and per diem costs. Presenting and attending this RIMS Annual Conference also provides the mandated continuing education credit necessary in 2011 for the Risk Manager to maintain his Certified Industrial Hygiene (CIH) credential. Staff respectfully requests that the Palm Desert City Council approve this out -of -country travel request. Staff Report: Out -of -Country Travel Request March 10, 2011 Page 2 of 2 Fiscal Analysis The Risk Manager's hotel and conference fees are already provided as he is an invited conference presenter. The only expenses that will be incurred during his travel are for airfare, transportation, and per diem costs. Staff estimates that these costs will not exceed $800.00.
