Recommendation
By Minute Motion, approve out -of -country travel for the Risk Manager to
participate as a presenter at the National Risk and Insurance Management
Society (RIMS) Annual Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, on May
2-5, 2011, for a not -to -exceed cost of $800.00.
Background
Palm Desert's Risk Manager is an invited speaker at the 2011 National Risk and
Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Annual Conference in Vancouver, British
Columbia. The topic he is presenting is titled "Power to the People -Risk Management of
Human Capital" and is sponsored by a Western Region Risk Management Chapter.
The RIMS Annual Conference is the main international conference for Risk Managers.
As the city's Risk Manager is an invited presenter, RIMS is waiving the conference fee
and the hotel cost is paid by the sponsoring chapter. The only expenses the Risk
Manager will incur for this travel request is airfare, transportation, and per diem costs.
Presenting and attending this RIMS Annual Conference also provides the mandated
continuing education credit necessary in 2011 for the Risk Manager to maintain his
Certified Industrial Hygiene (CIH) credential. Staff respectfully requests that the Palm
Desert City Council approve this out -of -country travel request.
