Discussion
Palm Springs Art Museum has recently taken over the previous Visitor Center building.
The applicant is requesting two 2' x 10' banners, one facing El Paseo and the other
facing Painters Path / parking lot until December 31, 2011. The size and location of the
banners meets the zoning code. However, the duration until the end of the year does
not. Chapter 25.68 Signs, Section 25.68.090 Temporary Signs, only allows new
business establishment identification signage for 60 days.
Section 25.68.090 Temporary Signs allows the City Council to grant a special permit
application or otherwise permit signs, displays, or advertising pertaining to civic,
patriotic, or special events of general public interest taking place within the city when it
can be found that the signs, displays, or advertising will not be materially detrimental to
the public welfare, interest, or safety, nor injurious to adjacent property or
improvements.
The City Council may approve additional time for temporary signs, such as banners.
The applicant may also request additional time beyond the December 31, 2011, date,
and may come back before the City Council with their request at a later date.
Fiscal Analysis
There is no financial impact to the City for the proposed sign by a private business
owner.
