Aryan, Assistant to the City Manager DATE: October 27, 2011 CONTENTS: Temporary Use Permit Application Recommendation By Minute Motion, Approve an exception to Municipal Code Section 9.58.010 (Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages on Public Property) for a private event at the Palm Springs Art Museum -Palm Desert (The Galen), located at 72-567 Highway 111. 2. Authorize the Director of Community Development to execute the Temporary Use Permit associated with this event. Background Palm Springs Art Museum (PSAM) officials indicated that they wish to hold a private event at their Palm Desert satellite facility, also known as The Galen (72-567 Highway 111). This event will occur on Saturday, November 5, 2011, (4:00 PM-10:00 PM) and also include the consumption of alcoholic beverages, both inside the facility and within the Sculpture Gardens. An application for a Temporary Use Permit was submitted to the Planning Division and circulated to the appropriate city departments for comment. The PSAM will have guests within a designated area and provide their own private security for the event. There will be no amplified music or outside tent structures utilized. Staff will also condition that the PSAM follow the provisions of the City of Palm Desert's Smoke Free Ordinance. Given these conditions, Staff recommends approval of the T.U.P. and an exception to Municipal Code Section 9.58.010 (Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages on Public Property).
