SUBMITTED BY: Stephen Y. Aryan, Assistant to the City Manager DATE: October 27, 2011 CONTENTS: Weiner Email (10/07/11) Palm Springs Modernism Week Sponsorship Information Recommendation By Minute Motion, Provide direction to Staff concerning a $2,500 sponsorship request by Palm Springs Modernism Week. 2. Appropriate $2,500 from the Unobligated General Fund if the City Council approves this sponsorship request. Background Staff received correspondence from Palm Springs Modernism Week, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, requesting a $2,500 sponsorship for the 2012 Palm Springs Modernism Week. This event will be held on February 16-26, 2012. Event organizers hope to have some events at the Palm Springs Art Museum (PSAM)-Palm Desert (The Galen) should it open in time. Currently, PSAM officials hope to have this facility opened by February 15, 2012; however, this schedule could be revised. If there is not an opportunity to have an event in Palm Desert in 2012, organizers indicated that they are willing to consider such an option for the 2013 Palm Springs Modernism Week. Event organizers are requesting the City of Palm Desert become a Silver Sponsor at a cost of $2,500. Staff was informed that to date, the Cities of Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage have become sponsors of this event at various levels. Staff respectfully requests the City Council's direction concerning this sponsorship request. The City of Palm Springs and the City of Rancho Mirage have become MW sponsors at various levels and I wonder if the City of Palm Desert also wants to have its name included, too. It's a modest sponsorship fee (you can be a Silver Sponsor for as little as $2,500) and I am enclosing here the list of benefits. We didn't think the Palm Desert branch of the Museum would be open during the Week so I didn't approach you earlier. If there is not enough time to get something like this through, I will understand and we can take up talks again next year for 2013. In any case, I wanted to be sure you knew that Palm Desert will play a big part in our 2012 festivities. Enclosed is the Silver information as well as our brochure about the Week itself. Hope all is well. Thanks for listening.
