HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation - Cuss Free DayWhereas, the original No Cussing Club was founded in South Pasadena, California, in 2007 by then 14-year-old McKay Hatch, who noticed many of his peers using cuss words and foul language that created an environment of rudeness and disharmony toward others on campus. Membership has rapidly spread to other schools, communities, states, and countries, with over 100 clubs and over 35,000 online members in 50 states and throughout the world; and Whereas, in August of 2011, the Desert Sands Unified School District Board approved the Palm Desert High School (PDHS) No Cussing Club, the only one of its kind in the Coachella Valley; and Whereas, the purpose of this organization is to empower students to use higher levels of communication, promote a friendly, less intimidating environment, and encourage leadership service; and Whereas, the California State Assembly passed a resolution in 2010 establishing the first week of March annually as Cuss Free Week throughout the State. Now, Therefore, I, Jean M. Benson, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert, California, Do Hereby Proclaim Thursday, September 29, 2011, as Cuss Free Day and the first week of March each year as Cuss Free Week in the City of Palm Desert as a reminder that "our ability to uplift, encourage, and motivate others and improve our community starts with the words we use and actions we take."
