Crawshaw Condolences and RecognitionWhereas, the people of the City of Palm Desert and its Sister City of Gisborne, New Zealand, were greatly saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Brian Crawshaw on May 25, 2010; and Whereas, Mr. Crawshaw was a prominent figure in the Gisborne community, serving as a Gisborne City Councilor, Deputy Mayor, and Mayor over the course of eighteen years of public service. Mr. Crawshaw was also an active Rotarian, serving as past President of the Rotary Club of Gisborne and being a Paul Harris Fellow; and Whereas, Mr. Crawshaw worked diligently in building international goodwill through interpersonal relationships, culminating in the establishment of Sister Cities in Gisborne and, under his guidance, a sister city relationship formed and strengthened with the City of Palm Desert; and Whereas, his many other community contributions included chairing and serving as a life member of the Keep Gisborne Beautiful Committee and chairing and serving as a trustee for the Eastwoodhill Arboretum; and Whereas, Mr. Crawshaw's significant community contributions were recognized with the award of a Queen's Service Medal in 1992. Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the Palm Desert City Council, speaking on behalf of all our citizens, hereby extends to the members of his family this expression of sincere regret for their loss and the hope that they will be consoled by the memories of his exemplary life and achievements.
