CITY OF PALM DESERT'7
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
STAFF REPORT
REQUEST: CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL TO SURPLUS THE POP JET
INTERACTIVE WATER FEATURE AND AUTHORIZE STAFF TO
ATTEMPT TO SELL THE EQUIPMENT
SUBMITTED BY: Mark Greenwood, P.E., Director of Public Works
DATE: September 29, 2011
CONTENTS: Conceptual Drawing
Recommendation
By Minute Motion, that the City Council approve the surplus of the Pop Jet
Interactive Water Feature and authorize staff to attempt to sell the equipment
via on-line auction.
Background
The Pop Jet Interactive Water Feature was purchased in 1994 and was designed to be
installed at Civic Center Park. Installation and infrastructure costs made installing this water
feature cost prohibitive and, therefore, the project was never completed. Staff has
attempted to find alternate locations for this equipment, but has not been successful. Staff
recommends attempting to sell this equipment via Municibid, an on-line government auction
website. The likelihood of a sale or any current estimated value is unknown at this time.
Fiscal Analysis
If a successful sale occurs, the proceeds will go into the General Fund.
