CONSIDERATION OF KIMBALL HALL PHOTOGRAPHY Donna Gomez stated that according to staff research and with agreement from Scott Burch, Kimball Hall Photography would be best suited for the new creative campaign as well as for photography that can be used for the website and well into the future. She reminded the Committee that the direction for the new campaign encompasses the warmth of the area, use of light, and lifestyle. Ms. Gomez is looking for the Committee's support on recommending this photographer. Using the Kimball Hall website, Ms. Gomez displayed a portfolio of their photography to give an idea of the quality of their work, and the use of light to capture lifestyle. Upon question, Ms. Gomez stated that Kimball Hall is out of the Orange County area, and will be using professional models. This company has been used in the past for prior campaigns. The initial proposal from Kimball Hall is a little expensive, but staff is negotiating to bring the costs within budget. Scott Burch added that their photography captures relationships and light, which are key components of the new campaign. Discussion ensued regarding the advantages of using professional models. Kimball Hall will handle every step of this process, including style, hair and makeup. The two locations that will be utilized for shots are the J.W. Marriott for spa and pool, and Desert Willow for golf, dining, lifestyle and possibly hiking. David Hermann added that when there are more locations for shooting, the cost increases. Ms. Bird-Hrivnak stated that their photography captures energy and is very creative in capturing the moment in a unique way. 4 APPROVED MINUTES PALM DESERT MARKETING COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 15, 2011 After suggestion by Rolf Hoehn, this item was tabled until after the creative ad campaign presentation. Following the discussion and motion for the creative ad campaign, Ms. Gomez stated that the timeframe for rolling out the new campaign will be January if the photography can be done by the last week of November. Scott Burch and staff will work closely with Kimball Hall. The City will own all the photos, but the team, including Scott Burch Design, will choose the specific photos to be used in the ads. Rolf Hoehn moved, by Minute Motion, to support the hiring of Kimball Hall Photography for the ad campaign photography. Motion was seconded by Marlane Wolf and carried 7- 0-2. Sara O'Flynn and Jenna LeMaster were absent. VII. CONTINUED BUSINESS None VIII. OLD BUSINESS A. CREATIVE AD CAMPAIGN PRESENTATION Scott Burch and his team presented two ad campaigns. The key points for the campaigns are (1) Palm Desert is a singular destination with unique differentiators, (2) Palm Desert is a place to experience in a personal way, and (3) a unifying sun -centric warm tagline of "sunny with a great chance of spectacular." The first campaign was "Feel the Warmth" to try to achieve a feeling of warmth, greeting, and hospitality. The second campaign substituted a "d" word for "Desert," such as Palm "Delicious", Palm "Dazzling," Palm "Daring," and Palm "Definitely." Motion was seconded by Jennie Rayner and carried 7-0-2. Sara O'Flynn and Jenna LeMaster were absent. B.
