Subject: INFORMATIONAL ITEM — CITY MANAGER MEETING SUMMARIES
Following are meetings held with groups, residents, and/or businesses for the period
June 6-19, 2012:
June 6 Meeting with City Attorney
Weekly meeting with the City Attorney.
Meeting with Dean Jandt and Dick Oliphant
Met to discuss the proposed legislation to transfer the remaining Cal
State land (110 acres remaining) currently owned by Palm Desert RDA
to Cal State. With the dissolution of RDA, Staff has been working on
methods to transfer the land to Cal State instead of disposing of the land
through sale.
Meeting with Staff Regarding Avenue of the States Fire Station
Met with Chief Cooley to discuss the priority of City Fire Stations, given
the loss of RDA. The next highest priority fire station to improve service
delivery and response times is the University Fire Station, not the
Avenue of the States Fire Station. It is believed that the Avenue of the
States Fire Station will substantially serve County unincorporated areas
rather than City of Palm Desert areas.
June 7 Staff Meeting
Bi-weekly meeting to review City Council agenda.
Chamber of Commerce Board Planning Conference
Attended the Chamber conference in Newport Beach.

June 8 Chamber of Commerce Board Planning Conference
Day 2 of the Chamber conference.
June 9 Recognition Dinner for Jerry Patton
Attended this dinner held at Desert Willow. Funds from the event were
raised for the COD Foundation toward scholarships in Mr. Patton's name
for College of the Desert students.
June 11 Meeting with Frankie Riddle Re: Upgrade of Electric Charging
Station
Met with Frankie Riddle and SCE to discuss upgrading the current
electric vehicle charging station at the Civic Center to be able to charge
the newer manufactured electric vehicles. The City will seek funding
grants from SCAQMD.
Executive Management Meeting
Weekly meeting with the Management Team. Discussed ongoing
projects and programs. Extensive discussion included timing and design
of the "one -stop" development services upgrades.
CVAG TAC Meeting
CVAG TAC approved the Date Palm Interchange regional funding
agreement and City sub -agreements. The City will consider a
sub -agreement with CVAG in the near future.
Meeting with Dave Erwin, Roger Crawford, and Lori Carney
Best, Best & Krieger hired a new Human Resources partner. BBK may
be able to assist the City with HR expertise in the future at a lower cost.
June 12 Meeting with Frankie Riddle, Palm Desert Resorter, Palm Valley
Country Club, and Burrtec
Last year, the City and Burrtec moved the Palm Desert Resorter and
Palm Valley Country Club residential waste and recycling to Thursday
from Monday service. After receiving many complaints from both HOA's
and Managers, the City called the move a pilot effort. After one year of
this pilot effort, the problems in these gated communities persist. The
City and Burrtec will be looking into alternatives.

June 12 Meetina with Mayor Spiegel and Representatives from The Living
(Cont'd) Desert
The Living Desert is asking the City of Palm Desert to participate
financially in a Dinosaur Exhibit.
June 13 Meetina with City Attorney
Weekly meeting with the City Attorney.
Desert Willow President's Meetina
Monthly meeting to discuss financials, project updates, and new
business, including Green to a Tee I and 11 Status and resident
programs.
Cove Communities Services Commission Awards Luncheon
Attended this meeting held at the Children's Discovery Museum of the
Desert.
Meetina with Tim Miller, Assistant Director, EDA, and Paul Gibson
At Mr. Miller's request, we met to discuss Supervisor Benoit's office.
June 14 Redevelopment Transition Team Meetina
Prepared the Agenda for the Oversight Board and discussed legislative
status of RDA clean-up bills.
Lunch Meetina with Desert Sun President/CEO. Editor. Mavor
Spiegel and Mayor Pro Tern Kroonen
Provided an overview of Palm Desert history, explanation of the City's
budget, and generally offered to provide information when they need
information.
Meetina with Al Karnia, Cal State
Mayor Spiegel and I met with Dr. Karnig to present him with the
academic excellence scholarship donation of $10,000.
City Council Meeting

June 15 Meetina with Mayor Spiegel, Mayor Pro Tem Kroonen, and City
Attorney
Weekly meeting to discuss citizen concerns and address issues brought
up during the week.
Meetina with Mayor Spiegel and Mr. Smith re: Taxis
The Mayor and I met with a taxi driver who expressed concerns over the
number of unmarked police cars in the City, especially El Paseo.
Meetina with Frankie Riddle and Mary Lou Sutter re: Athena
Awards
Ms. Riddle and I met with Mary Lou Suter of the Joslyn Center to
determine interest, if any, in producing the ATHENA Award program and
luncheon. In addition, if the Joslyn Center did assume the ATHENA
Awards, Rancho Mirage and Indian Wells could participate.
June 18 Executive Management Meeting -
Weekly meeting with the Management Team.
Year 1 PDAC Operations Interview with Desert Sun
Discussed the successes of the Aquatic Center and the YMCA
operations with Sherry Barkas at The Desert Sun. This should be a
positive story and advertisement for the Aquatic Center.
SCE Undergrounding Conference Call
Southern California Edison officials and City Staff discussed the factual
information both SCE and the City will disseminate at the June 27"'
public Palm Desert Undergrounding meeting.

June 19 The Fountains Apartment Conference Call with Chris Hameetman
City Staff and Palm Desert Police discussed how the landlord and
manager could make The Fountains apartments a safe place for the
community and Fountains tenants.
Martha's Village Thanksoivinq 5K Run
Met with staff and Martha's Village project team to discuss the event and
route.
COPS Office Assistance
Discussed how COPS volunteers
Compliance and Graffiti reporting.
