CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE STAFF REPORT REQUEST: APPROVAL TO REIMBURSE THE PALM SPRINGS ART MUSEUM FOR DECONSTRUCTION AND RELOCATION OF PREVIOUS VISITOR CENTER MILLWORK AND LIGHT FIXTURES IN THE AMOUNT OF $8,930. SUBMITTED BY: Stephen Y. Aryan, Risk Manager DATE: March 8, 2012 CONTENTS: The Kiner Group Correspondence Recommendation By Minute Motion, 1. Approve reimbursement, in the amount of $8,930, to the Palm Springs Art Museum for deconstruction and relocation work requested by the City of Palm Desert. 2. Appropriate $8,930 from the Building Maintenance Fund 450 for this reimbursement to the Palm Springs Art Museum. Background The Palm Springs Art Museum indicated to City staff that there were various millwork and electrical lighting fixtures that they did not require, as part of the tenant improvements enacted at the former Palm Desert Visitor's Center site. Staff recommends keeping these items as they came at a significant cost and could potentially be reutilized in a future project. Staff requested that the Museum obtain a minimum of three estimates to perform the requested deconstruction/relocation services and the following estimates were obtained: COMPANY ESTIMATE WDL Construction (Rancho Mirage, CA) $8,930 Hudson Construction, Inc. (Palm Desert, CA) $10,550 Golden Construction (Palm Desert, CA) $10,850 The Museum retained the services of WDL Construction and the items, some of which are depicted in the photographs below, were relocated the City's Joni Yard Facility. They will remain here until a future project is identified where they can be reutilized. Staff recommends reimbursing the Palm Springs Art Museum for the work performed at the City's request. Staff Report: PSAM-Relocation Reimbursement March 8, 2012 Page 2 of 2 Photographs Fiscal Analysis The requested reimbursement will be appropriated from the City's Building Maintenance Fund 450. As noted, this work was not a requirement under the lease agreement with the Museum, but was initiated at the City staff's request. The costs of the recovered millwork and lighting fixtures exceed the amount required to relocate them; therefore, staff recommends approval of this reimbursement request.
