Approve payment in the amount of $26,000 to Desert Recreation District for the 2012
International Sports Festival from Account No. 110-4416-414-3062.
Discussion
As part of the FY 2011/12 Budget, City Council approved various sponsorships exceeding $25,000. Staff
must obtain Council approval prior to making payments of sponsorships over this limit. As a result, staff is
requesting Council approval to make payment to Desert Recreation District for the 2012 International
Sports Festival in the amount of $26,000.
The International Sports Festival continues to grow each year; the growth from 2011 to 2012 was up
approximately 2%. The event has been cosponsored by the City since inception in 2000. The 2012 event
brought in approximately 1,200 participants vs. 1,176 reported in 2011. The breakdown reflects that
125+/- of the participants were local while 1,075 +/- were non -local participants ranging from 35 to 91
years of age. The 1,075 non -local residents travelled from Arizona, Wisconsin, Nevada, Texas, Florida,
Colorado and Utah. The City's sponsorship dollars continue to help fund media, advertising, opening
ceremonies and dedicated emergency response for the event.
Fiscal Analysis
Funding for this event was included as part of the FY 2011/2012 Budget; therefore, there will be no
additional impact to the General Fund as funds are available in Account No. 110-4416-414-3062.
