Funds are available in Account No. 233-4549-454-4001, Construction/Capital Improvements. Background Chemicals for use in treating the pool water are stored on site at the Aquatic Center and include pool acids, chlorine, and diatomaceous earth, which are required to be in a secured location. They are currently being stored in the mechanical room, but the preferred location for such chemicals would be in an outdoor secured storage area. On February 22, 2012, staff posted an Informal Request for Bid for the construction of a 60-foot by 6-foot high ornamental iron fence with access gates to secure the outdoor chemical storage area at the Aquatic Center. Two bids were received: Sam's at $23,600; and Griffiths Fence at $25,300. The bid from Sam's was accepted, a purchase order was prepared, and Sam's began fabricating the fence and gate. After additional consideration, staff determined that the fence securing this chemical storage area should be 8-feet high. Sam's indicated that the 2-foot height addition would add $5,000 to the original bid, bringing the total cost of the work to $28,600. The revised bid now requires Council approval, which staff recommends.
