Correspondence from K2 Productions
Recommendation
Provide direction regarding this request.
Background
The City received a request from Patty Roth on behalf of Miss Chloe Sharp for permission
to use the title "Miss Palm Desert" when she competes in the Miss Teen California Pageant.
Miss Sharp is a Senior at Xavier College Preparatory and has been accepted to compete in
this pageant in early 2013.
While the City of Palm Desert does not hold an official pageant, the Miss California Teen
organization guidelines require that any contestant wishing to use the name of a specific
organization or city must receive written permission from that organization's owner or city's
Mayor.
Miss Sharp will be at the Council meeting to answer questions or make a presentation if
Council desires.

Hi Mary, sorry it took so long to get back to you but I was waiting for information from the pageant which I
will forward on a separate email.
The city really has no obligations for allowing Chloe to use the title. It will just help her a lot as we continue the
fund raising to have the Miss in her title. the city may donate if they choose. If you would like to meet with
Chloe, she would be more than happy to arrange a time at your convenience.
If you have any question, you may reach me by email or phone number 7606415175.
Thank you so much for your help.

Hi, Patty
I spoke with City Manager John Wohlmuth about your request. He asked if you could
provide any information in writing from the Miss Teen California organization regarding
protocol for competitors as far as using the title of a specific city (i.e., Miss Palm Desert)
when that city does not hold an actual pageant/competition. In addition, what would be
expected from the City if it granted permission for Miss Sharp to use the title of Miss
Palm Desert?
Thank you!

Hi Mary,
I spoke to you earlier regarding Chloe Sharp.
My name is Patty Roth and I am part of the team sponsoring Chloe for the Miss Teen California Pageant.
Chloe has been accepted to compete in this pageant.,
Chloe is a seventeen year old senior at Xavier College Prep, her goal is to win the Miss Teen California
Pageant to acquire
funds to enable her to attend college.
Chloe has been active in many charitable projects throughout her years in school. Her first award was
presented to her by the Mayor of Palm Desert
when she was six years old so she would be a wonderful representative for Palm Desert.
I would like to know if you can direct me to the right person for Chloe to request permission to use the
title of Miss Palm Desert to compete in the pageant.
You may reach me at 760-641-5175 or paMroth3ehotmail.com.
Thank you,
Patty Roth

When presenting yourself as a contestant for the upcoming pageant please be sure to abide
by the MISS UNIVERSE guidelines. The correct way to present yourself is:
"Hello! I am representing YOUR TITLE HERE in the MISS CA USA 2013 Pageant"
Or
"Hello! I am representing YOUR TITLE HERE TEEN in the MISS CA TEEN USA 2013 Pageant"
You may only present yourself as "MISS Your title here" if you receive written permission
from that city or organizations mayor or owner. If you wish to become a "Miss" Please
contact the K2 Productions Office and we will assist you further.
You will receive your official pageant sash with your title when you check in at Pageant
Weekend. However, some contestants choose to purchase their own online prior to the
event for fundraising, etc. If you choose to do this please make sure your sash says only
your Title. If you are teen it should say "YOUR TITLE HERE TEEN." Sashes should never say
the word "MISS" on them.
