Wohimuth, City Manager DATE: September 13, 2012 Following are meetings held with groups, residents, and/or businesses for the period August 15 — August 31, 2012: Aug 15 Meeting with City Attorney Weekly meeting with the City Attorney. Meeting with Lt. Bill Sullivan Discussed the Sunglass and El Paseo burglaries and strategies to catch the burglars. Meeting with Lauri Avlaian regarding a Personnel Issue HR issue discussed with City Manager, as Lori Carney was on vacation. Meeting with Mark Greenwood and Ryan Gavler Discussed postponing the Highway 111 road reconstruction project and potential cost to the City for the delay. Meeting with Rudy Herrera (Family Development) re: Villa Portofino Rudy Herrera of Family Development is developing some of the remaining Villa Portofino. As the City prepares a new development agreement with Mr. Herrera, several new issues and timing of improvements need to be agreed upon. Aug 16 Staff Meeting Bi-weekly meeting to review City Council Agenda. Aug 17 Meeting with Dr. Tomas Morales (new President of CSUSB), Dean Fred Jandt, and Mayor Spiegel Met with the new President of California State University San Bernardino. Dr. Morales reiterated his support for the Palm Desert Campus and asked questions regarding the RDA land yet to be transferred to Cal State. Staff Report Informational Item: City Manager Meeting Summaries (August 15 — August 31, 2012) Page 2 September 13, 2012 Aug 17 Meeting with City Staff re: Villa Portofino Timeline (cont'd) Continued discussion of tentative dates for submittal to Architectural Review Commission and Planning Commission as well as construction submittal for 72 units at Villa Portofino. Meeting with Mayor Spiegel, Mayor Pro Tem Kroonen, and City Attorney Weekly meeting to discuss citizen concerns and address issues brought up during the week. Meeting with Ruth Ann Moore and Greg Berwin re: Westfield Discussed the disposition of the old Visitors Center/Sheriff Substation site on Highway 111/Monterey with Westfield. Westfield is interested in purchasing the building/land from the City and will get back to the City on an offer and timing. Aug 20 Executive Management Meeting Weekly meeting with the Management Team. Oversight Board Meeting Aug 21 Meeting with Rudy Acosta (Desert Hot Springs) and Ryan Stendell Desert Hot Springs is in the process of building a swimming pool associated with the Boys and Girls Club and Health Clinic. Mr. Acosta was trying to gain an understanding of maintenance costs. Meeting with Mary McKenzie re: Graffiti at Portola Country Club Ms. McKenzie is concerned about the graffiti removal on the concrete sides of the Whitewater River facing Portola Country Club. The graffiti removal is conducted by CVWD. City staff continues to work with CVWD on this matter. Meeting with Bob Matich and Mark Greenwood re: Highway I II Paving Sat down with Bob Matich of Matich Corp. to work out the details and cost of delaying the Highway 111 road reconstruction until June 2013. Aug 22 Meeting with Department Heads re: Cellular Phone and Radio Use The City's "push -to -talk" radios/phone service is no longer available. Met to discuss techniques for field communication while staying within the budget. Meeting re: Review of LG's Building Proiect Met with Mayor Pro Tern Kroonen and members of the Historical Society to listen to their concerns regarding the architecture of the Desert Magazine building. Staff Report Informational Item: City Manager Meeting Summaries (August 15 — August 31, 2012) Page 3 September 13, 2012 Aug 23 Memorial Services for Jeff Ronci's Mom Attended memorial services of Joanne Ronci, a former supervisor of Mono County. City Council Meetina Aug 24 Meeting with Mayor Spiegel, Mayor Pro Tern Kroonen, and City Attorney Weekly meeting to discuss citizen concerns and address issues brought up during the week. Grand Opening of Bermuda Dunes Learnina Center — Palm Desert Attended the grand reopening of the Bermuda Dunes Learning Center at the Lutheran Church on Portola Avenue. The City contributed Child Care DIF for the remodel and expansion. Aug 27 Executive Management Meeting Weekly meeting with the Management Team. Aquatic Center Committee Meetina Discussed the summer attendance and capital improvement expenditures, such as bleachers, gates, and shade. Meetina with Frank Orlett. Mike Veto, and Frankie Riddle re: Palm Valley and Palm Desert Resorter Routina Change Palm Valley and Palm Desert Resorter are not satisfied with the mitigation of the Monday to Thursday trash service. Although we instituted a "pilot period," the complaints are problems are still occurring. Staff will bring to Council another option for Thursday services. Aug 28 Meeting with Barbara deBoom re: Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce Profit & Loss Statement Met with Barbara deBoom to discuss the lease and CAM charges for the Henderson Building. Meetina with KemperSports Representatives (Jim Stegall, John Clark, and 011ie Becker) and City Staff re: KemperSports Manaaement Agreement for Desert Willow The City and KemperSports began meetings to negotiate a new contract. Meetina with Daryl Betancur re: City Manager Mentorship Met with Mr. Betancur, a former Cathedral City employee, who is interested in and applying for positions in a City Manager career. Meeting with Dean Newman re: Desert Willow Resident Card Mr. Newman is disappointed in Desert Willow Resident Card policy and wants the City to change the policy. Meetina with City Staff and Police Department to Discuss Strategy for Massage Establishments The State passed a massage therapist law, and City staff discussed how to maintain our control while complying with the State law. Aug 30 Vacation Day Aug 31 Legislative Review Committee Meetina Primarily discussed end of session bills, including the Pension Reform Bill. Meetina with Mayor Spiegel, Mayor Pro Tem Kroonen, and City Attorney Weekly meeting to discuss citizen concerns and address issues brought up during the week. Meetina with Frankie Riddle re: Cell Phone Stipends Discussed the implementation of the new field communication systems and the budget.
