HomeMy WebLinkAboutPresentation - Fire Prevention and Mini Muster MonthWhereas, during the month of October, Fire Station #33 of the Eastern Division of the Riverside County Fire Department, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Historical Society of Palm Desert, and Desert Sands Unified School District train Palm Desert third grade students in fire prevention and personal safety through the Fire Prevention and Mini -Muster Program; and Whereas, this year's Fire Prevention and Mini -Muster Program celebrates its 20th year at Gerald Ford Elementary, Abraham Lincoln Elementary, and George Washington Charter Schools, its 15th year at James Earl Carter Elementary School, and its 7th year at Ronald Reagan Elementary School; and Whereas, firefighters and volunteers will continue to train Palm Desert students to maintain standards that will ensure a fire - safe city for many years to come. Now, Therefore, I, Robert A. Spiegel, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert, California, Do Hereby Proclaim October 2012 as Fire Prevention and Mini -Muster Month in the City of Palm Desert and urge all citizens to pay tribute to the children who participate in this most worthwhile event. The Riverside County Fire Station #33 directs the field operations with the assistance of Station #55 and Volunteers from area stations. Firefighters provide and operate "Hands On" team type field activities for third grade students of James Carter, Gerald Ford, Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, and George Washington Charter elementary schools. Children participate on the field in the morning. Following lunch, the "Awards Assembly" convenes complete with Smokey Bear. The Historical Society is proud to announce that at the close of the 2012 Muster nearly 12,000 students will have experienced this valuable training. You are invited to attend any one or all of the five programs. This will be an excellent opportunity for you to interact and deliver the fire prevention message to the children of the desert community. Thursday September 20 Indian Wells will issue a Proclamation of Fire Prevention and Mini -Muster Month in Indian Wells at 1:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers. (for October) Monday September 24 Team Ribbons and Completion Certificates delivered to teachers. Enter student names on certificates.
