Backqround Marketing Committee by-laws allow for no more than eleven (11) members representing a variety of business segments including visual and performing arts. The Committee currently has ten members which provides for one vacancy. The McCallum Theatre has not had representation on the Marketing Committee for several years and, therefore, would seem an appropriate fit at this time. Mr. Jeffrey Norman was recently appointed the Director of Communications and Public Affairs with the McCallum Theatre which would qualify him under this category. THlS AREA FOR�FFICIAL USE ONLY: H:1WPdata\WPDOCSICMTESIante appl 2009.wpd 21 January 2009 JEFFREY NORMAN DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS McCALLUM THEATRE Jeffrey Norman, newly aboard as the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the McCallum Theatre, most recently served as Vice President for Public Affairs for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey. Norman had a twenty year tenure with NJPAC, starting in 1992 as a Capital Campaign Assistant before the building was built.. He received five promotions within his first seven years at the Arts Center. At NJPAC, Norman oversaw the Center's long- and short-range media strategies, as well as facilitating the Center's ongoing cultivation of New Jersey's divergent constituencies. His extensive outreach activities included public speaking, government liaison work, institutional public relations and other initiatives to attract new and returning audiences to NJPAC, Among his achievements at NJPAC include authoring dozens of grant proposals that helped raise millions of dollars during the Arts Center's capital campaign; successfully placing stories on all New York and New Jersey-based television stations and in most local, state, regional and many national publications. He also served as institutional spokesman and appeared extensively on New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia radio and television programs. Under his supervision, NJPAC created an extensive social media presence drawing large followings on Facebook and Twitter. He also managed the Arts Center's volunteer division. Prior to joining in NJPAC, Norman served as District Administrator for Assemblyman D. Bennett Mazur for four years and as an Assistant, for three years, to then Congressman Robert G. Torricelli, for whom he also served as Campaign Manager and Finance Director for his successful 1986 re-election campaign. A graduate of Fairlsigh Dickinson University, Mr. Norman earned a graduate certificate in non-profit management from Seton Hall University. He was co-founder and co-chairman of Voices for Life, an alliance of performers united in the fight against AIDS. He also served as a member of the board and active volunteer with Jersey Cares, an organization promoting volunteerism among young professionals; a member of ArtPRIDE, New Jersey's leading arts advocacy organization; Board member for Big Apple Performing Arts, the parent organization for the New York City Gay Men's Chorus and the Youth Pride Chorus; and a graduate and past member of the graduate board of Leadership New Jersey(Class of 1994), a select group of professionals chosen to focus on issues of concern to the State of New Jersey. He was awarded with the organization's Aletha Wright Award for Volunteer Leadership in 2007. Mr. Norman has also been an actor, singer and director and was named by the Star- Ledger newspaper as one of the outstanding supporting dramatic actors of 1994 for his perFormance in David Mamet's Speed the Plow with the National Stage Company and received an additional nomination for outstanding featured comic actor of 1998-99 for his performance in the Bickford Theatre's production of Sly Fox. He made his New York City nightclub debut at Don't Tell Mama in 2006.
