VI. NEW BUSINESS
A. PALM SPRINGS DESERT RESORTS 2013 RESTAURANT WEEK
REQUEST FOR SPONSORSHIP
Donna Gomez noted that Palm Desert has participated in Restaurant
Week for the past three years at the $2,500 sponsorship level. The event
has been very successful. To date, thirteen Palm Desert restaurants will
be participating, as well as the JW Marriott, The Living Desert, and Desert
Adventures. As a sponsor, Palm Desert's logo is on anything that is
produced, such as posters and newspaper ads, as well as on sponsor
tickets.
Councilmember Robert Spiegel commented that there were only nine
participating restaurants last year. It appears the event is not being sold
very well in Palm Desert. He also requested that the name of the event
include Palm Springs Area in the title; it would be more meaningful for
Palm Desert.
Tim Snyder said this program limits the restaurants that participate
because of the price points, which are $24 and $36 for a three-course
meal. There is also a $300 fee to each restaurant and they give
certificates, so the event could cost a restaurant $600 or$700.
Rolf Hoehn moved, by Minute Motion, to approve sponsorship of the 2013 Palm Springs
Desert Resorts Restaurant Week at the requested $2,500 level with the
recommendation that the word "Area" be added to the event name. Motion was
seconded by Stephanie Loog and carried 6-0-4, with Sara O'Flynn, Arlene Amick,
Jennie Rayner, and Diane Williams absent.
B. MARKETING COMMITTEE BYLAWS
Referring to the staff report, Ms. Gomez stated that it is very important to
have regular representation on the Marketing Committee. Because the
members are busy professionals and are sometimes called away on
business, the requested change is to allow City Council to appoint
alternate members, as necessary, from the same organization.
Emily Bird-Hrivnak moved, by Minute Motion, to recommend approval of the Marketing
Committee By-Laws changes to the City Council. Motion was seconded by Stephanie
Loog and carried 6-0-4, with Sara O'Flynn, Arlene Amick, Jennie Rayner, and Diane
Williams absent.

C. PRESENTATION OF MARKETING PROGRAM ANALYTICS
Ms. Gomez reviewed the November and December report from Off
Madison Ave. The mobile site is on hold until some final design concepts
are approved. Once they're approved, the site is ready to go.
At the previous request of the Committee, some new elements have been
added, which are numbers for the Canadian and New York markets.
Upon question from Stephanie Loog, Ms. Gomez stated that Palm Desert
is not currently advertising in the New York market. For the next year's
budget, the CVB and area communities will be looking into targeting New
York so as to not overlap their efforts.
Mr. Spiegel agreed that in order to target the New York market, anything
would have to be done next year.
Ms. Gomez stated that either independently through media buys or in
partnership with the CVB, that market would be addressed. Following up
on Mr. Hoehn's suggestion, OMA is looking into how conversion points
can be utilized better.
Emily Bird-Hrivnak moved, by Minute Motion, to receive and file the Marketing Program
Analytics. Motion was seconded by Stephanie Loog and carried 6-0-4, with Sara
O'Flynn, Arlene Amick, Jennie Rayner, and Diane Williams absent.

X. REPORTS AND REMARKS
A. Chair

great leadership, the club operated under budget. A number of homes are
in escrow and fourteen homes are under construction. Five BAM tuition
scholarships are available to students of breast cancer patients or
survivors.

B. Committee Members
Emily Bird-Hrivnak reported that the JW Marriott Desert Springs has a new
General Manager, Ralph Scatena. The resort ended the year on a better
than expected note. The new lawn area and pavilion for weddings and
events should be completed by March. Also in March the resort will be
hosting a national event of 180 meeting planners, which should bring in
business for the group side of the hotel.
Rolf Hoehn is busily preparing for the BNP Paribas tournament. Sales are
up this year by a wide margin, and advance bookings for the hotel
packages are selling out.
Tim Snyder mentioned that Cruise Night on EI Paseo will begin on Friday,
and the Jazz Series at The Gardens begins on February 2"a
C. Staff
Ms. Gomez reminded the Committee about the basics of the Brown Act,
specifically that Committee members must not discuss an agenda item
outside of this forum.
She distributed the new rack card for the Visitor Center, which is
distributed throughout the region by Certified Folder Display.
As a supporter of the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair February 15-17, day
passes are available if anyone on the Committee would like one.
The Amgen Tour of California will be televised live on NBC Sports and will
be in Palm Desert on May 13t" for 30 to 40 minutes. Palm Desert is part of
the second leg of the race and is providing in kind services, mainly police.
By getting the word out via the newsletter and other resources there will
hopefully be a large crowd on EI Paseo to support the event.
