SUBMITTED BY: Mark Greenwood, P.E., Director of Public Works VENDORS: L & L Automotive, Inc. 74-894 42nd Avenue Palm Desert, CA 92260 Ozzie's Automotive Inc. 74-894 Lennon Place, Suite F2 Palm Desert, CA 92260 DATE: April 25, 2013 Recommendation By Minute Motion, approve additional funds for Fiscal Year 2012-13 in an amount not to exceed $40,000 for supplemental general fleet repairs from L & L Automotive, Inc., and Ozzie's Automotive, Inc. Funds are available in General Fund Account No. 110-4331-413-3340, R/M Fleet. Background The City's fleet includes more than 80 vehicles that range from small sedans to heavy- duty trucks that operate on electricity, gasoline, compressed natural gas (CNG), propane, diesel, or a combination of these fuels. The City's maintenance facility is neither equipped nor staffed to perform all necessary repairs and maintenance for the fleet, therefore, the City relies on outside facilities for these services. Each year approval is requested from the City Council for funds to cover these services, and on May 24, 2012, Council approved an amount not to exceed $100,000 for Fiscal Year 2012-13 for these services to be obtained from L & L Automotive, Inc., and Ozzie's Automotive, Inc. Staff Report Approve Additional Funds for Use of Specific Automotive Services May 24, 2012 Page 2 of 2 Of the originally approved $100,000, Tess than $13,000 remains. Given that the average monthly cost to perform vehicle repairs and maintenance has been approximately $9,600, there are insufficient funds remaining for the balance of the fiscal year. In order to keep the vehicles in working order, staff is requesting additional approval for an amount not to exceed $40,000 for services that will continue to be obtained from L & L Automotive, Inc., and Ozzie's Automotive, Inc. Fiscal Analysis This is a necessary maintenance expense with no fiscal impact beyond the cost to service the fleet vehicles. Prepared By: andez Aairyt nce Services Manager PI S.
